Buck UP!

Last year's spotted fawn became this year's spike buck, and now, as summer slides along ...

... he's forking off in my garden.

Not shown in this picture, a doe and a new spotted fawn that was playing like a frisky lab puppy while the adults browsed.
(I took these photos without leaving the back porch.)

That right there is a major partial-circle blog coup, getting the same animal with the same backdrop with different antlers. May I ask how long an interval exists between Photos 1 and 2? I notice the bright green plant behind him has barely changed. But there are purple flowers blooming beneath his nose in Photo 2 that aren't there in 1. This is like Highlights for Science Chimps!!

They are beautiful, but they're also ravenous. And when he wants to rub that velvet off . . .

It's interesting that as many deer as we have around here, and as many as we have seen over the years, I don't think we've seen one buck near our house.

Great "time lapse" shots! All I get in my back yard is 'possums. And the Cooper's Hawk who likes the taste of White Wing Dove I so conveniently attract to the feeder.....

Very nice shots. We live in deer country but alas, I am to close to a major road and highway that I don't get the chance to see a deer close up!
