Off To Fake Florida....Fake Everything, But The Kids Like It.

Short post this morning. I am taking the birthday boy (14) and his two buds to "Blizzard Beach", a Disney water park. For me, it's a case of a stranger in a strange land. The boys will have a blast and that's what this trip is all about. I'd better get my packing list together...
Sunscreen
Hat...less hair than 1975
Book...out of fiction, maybe Muir's "A Thousand Mile Walk To The Gulf"
Patience
Foreign language dictionary...
Camera...always the camera

Y'all have a great day wherever you are.

Enjoy this Limpkin photo, this bird is a symbol of the very wildest parts of Florida. More on that later... Posted by Picasa

Such a neat bird. I've always wanted to hear one call at night in the swamp. Guess I'll have to make a trip to Florida before they all disappear (swamps, as well as limpkins).

Happy 14th to the birthday boy! Hope the trip was fantastic for them and bearable for you :).

LOL, better you than me.
Bet he had a great birthday!
I don't think I've ever heard of a Limpkin, but it looked familiar, however.

We used to live on a lake out near Hawthorne, Florida. Are they common to that area?

DPR,
I believe they do, it's called $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...$$$!

Swamp,
It's about the scariest sound in the swamp. It's been a while...I think I need to hear it again too.

Laura,
It's possible. Hawthorne is not too far away. I got this shot on Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge near Deland and Lake George. I heard the Limpkins call on the Oklawaha River. Spooky!

We had a limpkin spend some time in north Alabama a few years ago. People came from all over to see it. Some folks got so excited that they named him Larry and sold t-shirts. :)

Rurality,
I bet the birders were flocking to add him to their life lists!
