Muhly Grass

This is Muhly Grass, (Muhlenbergia capillaris). This native plant is salt tolerant, drought tolerant, no pests, no problems. It grows in huge masses under open forest canopies and along roadsides and it fairly GLOWS when the sun is right. This one was growing on the ride out to Twig Forest. Posted by Picasa

I'm a great fan of muhly grasses - like you say, they're real troopers and a delight to look at.

This time of year I also enjoy silver plume grass, Saccharum alopecuroidum (aka, Erianthus alopecuroides).

Wayne,
They are beautiful in masses. I haven't transplanted any, but I imagine one clump can be divided with a sharp knife like other grasses.

Wow! That's beautiful. Do deer eat it?

How far north can this be planted? It looks as if the planting zones will tolerate colder climates like New Jersey? What kind of cost will I be looking at as well?
