Final Fair Flurry

The fair is over. Whew!

The top two pictures above are of Katie showing her pig. The show was Monday, the auction was today. Katie's pig weighed 250 pounds and she got about $3.00 per pound.

The bottom two pictures are of Jr. In the first picture, his FFA advisor/Ag Teacher had just finished brushing his long hair out of his eyes before he entered the show ring. I was a fraction of a second too late to catch this gentle, motherly gesture. Jr. got $4.00 per pound and his pig weighed 230 pounds.

The guy in the bottom right picture with the tan cap is the swine judge.

The commercial livestock price for these pigs is just under 38 cents per pound, so you can see the generous support local businesses offer the kids by offering inflated prices at the fair auction. They are good people.

It was fun and now it's done. Posted by Picasa

Looks like the kids did a good job. Of course it looks like they had great support from their parents which is where it all starts.

I don't know stink about showing pigs but to *me* the pigs and the kids look like they have great form and stage presence.

I bet you are sooo proud. I sure would be! Great community, great kids -- great parenting.

They look like confident kids doing something that gives them a sense of accomplishment. Your daughter is so beautiful - going away to college. Get a big box of tissues ready.

Your son - sorry to tell Mrs. Cracker, but the boy is all you!

It looks like they're wearing some type of jackets with a patch? That's cool - the kids around here just all wear whatever. I like the uniform look.

Thanks so much for posting all the fair pictures. We are so far away from that event and your photos are a breath of spring!

Congratulations to the kids for all their hard work - and kudos to the local businesses.

Thanks Zanne,
The kids have to show in official dress, either 4H green jacket, etc or the blue jacket of the FFA. Looking forward to your fair posts later :)
