This starving dog showed up at PFHQ yesterday evening ... so of course we fed him.
He is not staying though.
I am not one of those "I adopt every stray animal that passes my door" type of people.
So... what will we do with him?
He will get lots of food here for a few days to build up his strength and then, pending divine intervention in the form of one of those, "I do adopt every stray animal I see" type of people, he will go to our local No Kill shelter and we wish him luck.
He's friendly, really, really needs a bath, and has a bit of "mange" on his earflaps.
... And, as you can see from this picture, his front legs have issues, but they don't seem to bother him.
So, you're keeping him then?

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, he is adorable! Seems to be a puppy compared to other basset hounds I've met. The odd leg formation is pretty 'normal' for the breed. Hope he finds a great home!

ReplyDeleteHey, you don't have to adopt every animal. You just try to help them out, and get them to someone who is in a position to try to find them a home.

(Yep. I AM one of those people who adopts most of the animals that I come across. That's why I have five cats!)
Look at those eyes. Look deeply in those pools of liquid chocolate. Umm, now I want a Godiva bar.

If you have access to a no-kill shelter and if they have room for your strays, you are one lucky guy. We get lots of abandoned animals within a couple of miles of our house, and our local pound is definitely not no-kill. It's always an ethical dilemma, especially for one dog lover and one soft-hearted person.

ReplyDeleteShoot, if I lived closer and could afford to feed another mouth, I'd take Baxter home in a heartbeat. Bassetts are among my top five favourite dogs ever.

ReplyDeleteBe careful not all no kill shelters are really no kill. Also the Mange might be demodex or sarcoptic. Sarcoptic is contagious to people and other animals. Todd
ReplyDeleteHe's very, very cute, fc. Have you named him yet? I'm sure you've checked the missing pet ads and not found anyone crying over their sweet, sad-eyed boy? I hope he finds a good home. He sure looks adopt-able to me. But then again, Roger and I adopted cat with weird, wacky legs.

He's at the shelter and I contacted a basset rescue group and notified them, so my conscience is clean, soothed by the affection of my own 3 chosen and well fed, well cared for, Retrievers.
We do what we can, said the broke father of two college students ... soon to be three.
