I think this is a huntsman spider, but I am too lazy to check before posting. These are incredibly fast spiders. I tried, but my finger would not get any closer...
Hick, I was trying to be as spider-brave as Swamp4me. She has a photo from a few posts back with her finger practically touching a fat spider. My finger would not obey my commands to move closer...
Your daughter's very clever and may have a future as a detective! I really enjoy your blog also and hit it daily.
My wife...poor thing, she has to live with a guy who always says, "Don't hire somebody, I can do that..." Luckily, she's a registered nurse so I get patched up for free.
I used to live in the midst of a very large woodsy park. We'd get spiders in the house on occasion that would darned near make "patter" sounds when they scurried across the floor. I used to bottle them and bring them to a local exterminator for identification. One type was a wolf spider and another a wood spider. I recall the exterminator telling me that one of them had a bite that could induce viral-symptoms for a day or so. The other was harmless. I wish I could remember which was which!
Weary, I know exactly what you mean regarding the patter. I once had an even larger one of these huntsman spiders clear out my daughter's slumber party upstairs. When I went up stairs to save the day, this huge spider pattered across the wall and into a closet where you could hear him moving about...Whew...gives me the willies just remembering it. I bug sprayed that one...
YIPES! Why would you want to put your finger any closer? Are these guys dangerous? They look like it.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter (age 14.5) and I are thoroughly enjoying your blog...we read it together. She thinks you must be a teacher.
I just think your wife must be very brave.

Good job, FC! That is a very nice spider -- love the leg span.
ReplyDeleteWe had a nice trap-door spider on Monday, but I didn't get any pictures.
Swamp,
ReplyDeleteIt seemed to have some kind of spidey- force field preventing my finger from coming as close as you did.
