To continue our cypress theme, here's a little bit of swampy greenness. Duckweed covers the surface. What a well named plant. If you have ever seen mallards feeding on duckweed you know they love it...must taste like mocha almond fudge ice cream to them.
Duckweed is supposedly very high in protein; those ducks know a good food source when they see one!
ReplyDeleteDoes Duckweed do any damage to the other wildlife living in the water? It looks like algae to me, but I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff.

Duckweed is a true vascular plant, not an algae. I believe it is the world's smallest flowering plant. Picture 2 tiny oval leaves, about the size of sesame seeds with tiny roots hanging down into the water. That's a duckweed plant.
Duckweed is not detrimental to my knowledge, although a good crop would cut down on light getting down to submerged plants.
