Not long ago, Pablo wrote about possible Thong Trees at his properties. I had never heard of such a thing, although that is understandable as I believe there may be other things I don't know...yet.

According to Pablo, the first people in the area used leather thongs to force a tree to lean in a certain direction. This was for the purpose of marking trails. A young tree would be staked into the desired postion and held there by the thongs until it grew into that position. The bent tree would then act as a living sign post pointing the way to go. How elegant and clever.

I am happy to announce that I have found evidence of this same activity on my property. I came across this Thong Tree while walking the northwest corner of my woodland. As you can see in the picture, a young oak has been thonged to mark some kind of trail.

Later today, after I get home from work, I will post the Girdle Tree I found.

  1. You know I have to admit to looking around for thong trees the last time we walked around here... but I sure didn't find any that looked like that!!!

(If I did I'd be afraid to go any further...)

  2. Rurality,
True, sometimes you just need to turn around and beat feet. This was a bit of a joke though, it's safe.

    DPR,
Oh no, Thong You very much.

    Thing,
Sit down and take a deep breath. It was just a joke. This is the first and only time that little patch of undies will ever be used for anything. I was just having some fun with the PABLO.
    I think I rattled you...

  6. DPR,
They were payback from a friend for a joke I made. I didn't know what to do with them and then...THONG! It hit me like an elastic band...

  9. Wait a minute. That last comment did not come out like I intended (blushes profusely). I meant that I did not know what that thing was until Thingfish enlightened me.

    Apologies to Pablo.
