Land Lubber

FC's not here.
He asked me if I would step in for him and do a guest column,
Of course I jumped at the opportunity ...

He's off on his Lap hop....LAPTOP ... sorry ... anyway, he's working on a Powerpoint presentation on the metric system for the nymphs ... wait, that's not right, you guys don't metamorphose, not even incompletely ... what is the word?

Calves ...no ...larvae? ...no, he's only kidding when he calls the 7th graders that ...pups, cubs, kids ...kids, that sounds right.

FC asked me, because he posted pics of me and some siblings as tiny black nymphs a few months ago. Remember? They were tiny black hoppers lined up on a blade of grass. (Were you paying attention?)
He thought you might want to see what I've become.

Pretty snazzy if I do say so myself. You might think I'm being foolishly brave standing atop this stump in plain view of insectivorous birds (shudder), but I taste really bad and the birds mostly know that.

Even FC's chickens won't eat my clan.

I like this photo (it's my good side...which actually looks exactly like the other side). I think it shows the many segments of my personality.

Well, I need to get a jump on eating ...I still have a molt or two in me and I think I saw one of FC's pepper plants that the deer missed.

Hoppy trails! Posted by Picasa

  1. Wow. That's got to be the biggest compilation of corny puns I have ever seen in the blogospher. Congratulations. And have fun writing the PowerPoint...it's just a joy isn't it?

  2. Great post!
And that hopper looks like its mama had an affair with a yellow jacket. Not a hopper connoissuer but I don't think we have that kind up here.

  5. Good job filling in for FC. The only predator you have to worry about is " How bout them Gators "

  6. Wowsers...I see you really put on the dog...er, uh...hopper for the picture. You even applied hair jell to your leg hair to make it all spikey. Very impressive.

How come FC never does that for us?

  7. FC-- You get the cutest critters to fill in for you. This one's very talented and engaging, and has quite a sense of humor.

  9. Sorry to hear that FC's so busy. You did a good job filling in and maybe he'll have you back again sometime!!!

It must be very confusing to go from speaking grasshopper to speaking and typing english. How great to be bilingual. And what coordinated legs you must have to have accomplished all of that typing! Is it easier with hour arms? I'm asuming you stood on your back two while you were typing.

  10. Okay, that was supposed to be "four" arms ... not hour arms.

  11. My but you are one handsome fellow! Punny, too.

  12. HurricaneT,
    Puns and alliteration...my weakness

    ThreeCollie,
You'd know if you had 'em ... they are about 4 inches long.

    Pablo,
I'm sending this hopper to RR to eat your pecans.

    Rick,
Soon the chomp will begin ...
    How's Uncle Richard doing?

    ThunderD,
    I'm going there next!

    Hick,
I think he uses exoskeleton gel...

    Vicki,
TEMPLE VEINS PULSING, BRAIN IN DANGEROUS OVERLOAD....arghh

    Ava,
He actually hops from key to key.

    Leslie,

  14. Between your blog and my blog, you must just be in a punny mood or something!!

I forgive you, though, 'cause that is a gorgeous close-up you've posted there! Mine never turn out so well, my subjects have a tendency to run away.
