Hagen's Cove is a beautiful spot along the wild big bend coast. There's covered picnic tables and one larger pavillion. The cove is incredibly shallow, clear, and covered with seagrasses.
It's a gorgeous place and I can imagine it's a great place for winter migrant birding. The observation tower gives you a good view of the big picture. There's even a campground.
The boat "ramp" is rustic, but only airboats, kayaks, canoes, and maybe a tiny jonboat could float here anyway. Don't bring your deepwater boat ...leave the Mako 25 at home.
The shallows were being worked pretty hard by a variety of wading birds, mostly egrets and herons, but this willet was kind enough to allow me to get close enough for a shot.
Tomorrow's post will illuminate what the willet ate.
