Pooped Out, But I Finished!!
My National Boards Portfolio is in the official blue mailing box and ready to go. I'll mail it today on my 20 minute lunch "hour".
Other Nationally Certified teachers warned me it would take 2 hours to pack the portfolio by the guidelines. It was a nightmare of this page must be here, double check this, where's that form, etc. "Plan for 2 hours" they said.
I laughed ... "Yeah, maybe it took YOU 2 hours to organize and pack ..."
I started filling the 5 large envelopes with my product at 7:30 pm.
I finished at 1:15 am.
Now I have to schedule an appointment for a battery of tests in June.
Then it's a waiting game.
They won't let me know if I made it until Thanksgiving.
I need a nap, but it's shark dissection day.
Dang, dude! Is this all part of the "no teacher left with a spare moment" act?
ReplyDeleteWhoo Hoo! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteHave you said what national certification means and why you're going to all this trouble?
ReplyDeleteWill there at least be a nice raise in it somewhere? A few extra days off?
Enjoy the shark dissections. Yuck.
That sounds as exhausting as getting all the paperwork ready to fill out for the numerous IRS forms I have to do. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to do a post on the shark dissection?
Try documents for I.N.S. (Immigration). They have a new moniker now, but the hassle is just the same.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain.
You'll make it. Is there any way that others can let their opinions be known to the "deciders"? I'm sure you'd have an outpouring of support from the weblog community!
(And speaking of outpourings of support... Thanks, Fc, and all who kept me and my family in their thoughts.)
maybe the "envelope packing" is actually the test. i'll bet you pass on both form and content.
ReplyDeleteInquiring readers do want to know, as laurahinnj asks, why did you undertake this rather arduous task? Tests in June? For what? Do all teachers have to do this?
ReplyDeleteWill there be shark dissection pics tomorrow?
I never took marine bio in high school, but the class was next door to my chemistry class. The entire building knew the day they started shark dissections. Man, what a smell. We all found reasons to be out of the building while they were doing them.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the national certifications. I have an aunt who made it. The extra money was nice, but she's beginning to find the additional work to be a real drag.
.....Alan.
Congrats on finally getting through it...and Thanksgiving..that is ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteAnd what, exactly, do you get from this foray into masochism? Some special certification? Is it required? Will it get you tenure? Or a salary increase? Or better job prospects? Or a hearty hurrah?

Congratulations on a job that I'm sure was well done. Like everyone else though, I'm wondering why you put yourself through this arduous process?
ReplyDeleteAnswering all in a post above this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great interest!
I read your explanation for wanting to be a Nationally Certified teacher.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your blog, I do not doubt that your students are fortunate to have you as their teacher. I imagine congratulations will be in order this November.

Cathy,
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I've lot more of those pup pics.
