The system swooshing across the eastern USA got here predawn with more wind than rain so far, but every drop is welcome. I went out on the porch into the gloaming and watched my oaks whipping back and forth as gust after gust rocked them. You could hear the next gust moving throught the forest as it headed your way ... like an approaching T-Rex in a dinosaur movie.
Pretty cool.
Doppler radar picked up a probable tornado 50 miles east of here near the Gainesville Airport. I saw the warning on TV as it was happening, but I don't know what became of it.
The rain will be good for the grass that has patiently waited for some respite from a droughty couple of months. The spring greening of Pure Florida began quite a while ago, but the grass has not grown much yet.
Coming up this week:
I have something you've never seen to share with you. It's pink.
My tomatoes are blossoming ...
A noisy tree gets it's 15 minutes of blog fame ...
Mrs. FC and Emma go on a cruise to Mexico, Jr. goes to a convention, Kate goes constantly, and I get the house to myselfish.
There's probably something else, but it escapes me now.
Now I have to go hang an interior, yet exterior pocket door and enjoy this blustery weather.
We were watching that weather system, it was nasty! Hope your area came through ok without tornado damage.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't help thinking, you know we've had a serious drought situation in Florida when we actually write about the rain as if it's an event! LOL!
Stay dry, hope Emma and Mrs. FC have a blast. :)
Yowsa, great photos and so much to look forward to all week. Home alone is such a mixed blessing....you can enjoy the silence, no interruptions etc., but oh, how you miss them!
ReplyDeleteWe got a lousy 1/4 inch or so, after being promised 1 to 2 inches! :(
ReplyDeleteIs that one of those fancy new nine-banded plant holders?
Considering that they're predicting a low of 36 tomorrow night, we haven't planted a dadgum thing.
We've been watching that storm move up the coast. It looks like it's going to really plow into NYC. What's left of the storm in the south appears to be a lot of wind. Batten down the hatches, and hold on! Hope Mrs FC and Emma have a great time on their cruise, and Jr. at his convention. How fun for them.
ReplyDeleteI'd be more than happy to send you our share of the wet. Hopefully it will come to you in the form of rain, as opposed to the snow that is falling on us.
ReplyDeleteHey FC, I'm finally caught up for this week:
ReplyDeleteNice looking garden, it looks like it's off to a good start.
Happy Anniversary! Wow 2 years of Sharing your experiences and thoughts, thanks and keep it coming!
We had a Pileated Woodpecker swoop down and peck at a stump across the street from our old house. They're much larger than you think!
Nice shot of the "Daddy Long Legs"! Lucky for you, you were right about the myth thing! ;-)
It was an awesome trip, I wonder about Tina sometimes too. The house looks good!
Well, we try to do our part here too. We try to carpool every day, we've been planting as much as we can around our house (although most of that ends up as rabbit food! I'm lucky that they don't seem to eat the hops! This past week we even house-sat for some friends, which ended up saving us nearly 40 miles/day to get to work and back.
Yeah, we've had some pretty odd weather the past couple of weeks. Lightnin got some pretty good shots of a vicious storm that passed through this week. I'll try to get them out in a post here today.
Glad to hear no tornado materialized down your neighborhood way. We've been in a tornado watch all day up here in the Carolinas, but nothing here so far either. Looks like most of the wind/rain is over for us.
ReplyDeleteYou left so many riddles teetering at the end of your post. Is it my wintry mood or is that blade of grass thrusting through some carapace?
ReplyDeleteAh. I've inadvertently made a poem and have outed myself. There. Now I've planted a riddle for you. (Although 'grass' and 'carapace' are a bit of a stretch)
Laura,
ReplyDeleteWell, it was wind and minimal rain darn it! Really neat blustery sunshiney day after the morning grey.
ThreeCollie,
Mrs. FC and Emma go Tuesday evening, Jr. goes Friday,Katie just go,go, goes.
Rurality,
Yes, the same 9 bands from a previous puzzler post involving Flounder. Our rain could not have been much more than yours :(
Robin,
LOTS of cool fresh wind and blue skies ... a really spectacular day after all.
Paintsmh,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...
Hey Dave,
Glad you caught up and very glad the bunnies don't like hops.
Looking forward to Lightnin's pics.
RCW,
I think the Weather Channel et al, have a severe case of over estimating storm effects.
Cathy,
It's the top of a very dead armadillo ... now food for grass and willow.
Uhh. In reference to the let it snow let it snow, I'd really rather we didn't
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting week up ahead at Pure Florida...not that I wouldn't check in here at least three times a day if it wasn't...
ReplyDeletedarn! i was going to guess armadillo for the last photo!
ReplyDeleteglad you are getting some rain, if only a little! it rained at home yesterday, but i'm in southern california for work and family duty right now, and no rain here for ages. 1/2 inch in downtown LA since last july 1. bad drought coming.
