Triple Birthday Celebration

The birthday kids, Mom, Dad, and Junior doing the candle snuffing.

There was no Saturday post here at Pure Florida this weekend, because we were up early and off to St. Augustine for a triple birthday celebration.
Mom, Dad, and Junior all have birthdays this month so we decided on a consolidated birthday celebration to save gas and work around everyone's busy schedule. Last Saturday was the only day where we could get everyone ... even Tampa Emma all together for some cake and birthday wishes.

The picture above is Junior as he discovers that his $1000 is all in ones.

Every time one of my kids hits 16, their Uncle T (my big brother) gives them $1000 AND A CONTRACT which stipulates the money may only be invested, not spent until they turn 18. No cars, no ATV's, no triple core processor computers, etc.
PLUS, the recipient must report back to Uncle T when they hit 18 and tell him how their investment went.
It's a pretty funny contract to read also.

I'm sure Uncle T is happy that I have no more kids as he's done this three times now.

The cake was sportin' some high tech candle thingies that burn the color of the candle stick. The photo sorta shows that, but they really did burn in technicolor.
Pretty cool.

We ate lunch at Schooner's (as usual) and returned to the house for cake and presents. It didn't take long for Katie to find her spot. This couch has drawn her like a moth to a porchlight since she was a little girl and being grown up has not changed that allure.

It was a great day and Junior returned home with cash to invest and 100 Toll House (original recipe) cookies from his Grandmother's oven. He counts these cookies and checks frequently to see if we are stealing them (we are). Last year, he had little warning signs inside the cookie box.

I think it would be easier to take his cash than those cookies.

  1. Warm wishes for all! Congratulations.

I never thought of issuing a contract when I give my nephews (and one niece) money for their birthdays. That's a clever idea.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful day. Thanks for sharing it. No cars, huh? Is that where Emma got her money to invest in the IRA?

  3. Way cool candles! The contract idea is ingenius. JR is obviously a good sport, as well... big bucks in a Barbie bag. LOL!

  5. The contract really is a great idea. I'll have to remember that. Very generous too. Looks like it was a grand birthday party for everyone. Must have been delightful to have the whole family together.

  6. I guess for a thousand bucks a teenage boy wouldn't even notice the money came in a Barbie gift bag! {laughing}

Happy birthdays all the way around.

I feel a trip to St. Augustine coming on soon...

  9. Sorry I took a couple of weeks off there, but I'm back now and will try to get caught up over the next couple of days.

Thanks. So far everyone has abided by the contract.

  11. I noticed the Barbie bag too. Strange, but who cares when there's that much $$$ inside. Hope he invests it well!

  12. I wish I had had an uncle like that...My Dad, for all his inherited worth, never taught me one thing about investing...but I digress...

  15. Great blog. Stumbled upon your blog last year and have enjoyed following it. As someone from a minorcan heritage born in St. Augustine, much of your writing hits home. P.S. Schooner's is a real treat when I get a chance to visit my hometown.
