Off to Cedar Key For The Festival Today
I took this photo last week. Things in Cedar Key will be a bit crazier this weekend. Folks will pour in for the Seafood Festival and the locals will make easy money charging them to park on their property after the regular parking spots fill up.
If you are full of seafood and tired of the festival hubub, take a ride out towards the Cedar Key "airport" and the state museum. Pure Florida scenery like the picture above is waiting out there in the backcountry of the little island.
Just remember not to park on the landing strip at the "airport".
The pilots frown on that.
Don't forget to take the necessary survival gear ... and your cash.
As I write this, the deer in the front yard are the only ones up around here this morning at 8:00 am. Homecoming was last night and everyone (but me) stayed up too late. Emma came home from college to pass on her crown to the new queen ... this is the first time in 2 years that the homecoming queen wasn't one of my daughters. It's nice to be one of the common folk again.
Eventually, they will stir and I will take them out to Cedar Key, but for now, I think I'll just let them sleep.
Have a great weekend!
Darn it! I am a day late with reading this, otherwise we would have made plans...my husband is not a spontaneous kinda guy or else I would be seeing you up there ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like a wonderful day...have a great time.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great place to be hanging out with a camera. Can't wait to see the pics when you get back.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know I was in the presence of royalty! How awesome is that, both daughters. :)
ReplyDeleteDelicious seafood, unspoiled nature, and a glimpse of Florida's past. On the other side of our state hundreds of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts have descended on Volusia county for a four day festival of cheap beer, cole slaw wrestling, and unbridled debauchery. Are you quite sure about your choice on where to spend the weekend.:D
ReplyDeleteI kept my out for you today but I didn't see you ;( I actually convinced my family to do something spur of the moment and we headed out to Cedar Key...it was an awesome day, can't wait to post my photos. Thank you so much for posting about it this morning or I would have missed it! We ate the shrimp, the grouper sandwich AND the crab cakes...all were awesome...even the free samples of clam chowder ;) Thanks again Florida Cracker for reminding me about the beauty and the fun that is in our own backyard ;)
ReplyDeleteSo beauty and pulchritude abound at the Cracker House? It figures, you bein' so purty, and all.
ReplyDeleteWhat a comfortable and happy post- I love it- easy to imagine life in Cedar Key today. That one photo reminds me of kayaking along a river in Honduras a few years ago. Nice boat, too. Can't wait to be in Florida on Monday.
ReplyDeleteDanielle,
ReplyDeleteRelative to your last comment: You did see me. In fact, we spoke. I was the cowboy sitting on the bench by the beach with the pretty girl (my daughter). Watch for the post that follows this one as soon as I finish this comment.
What a small world.
3C,
It was excellent.
Robin,
You won't have to wait long :)
Sharon,
Yes! Check the archives for all the braggy Dad posts about homecoming queens.
Eyemkmootoo,
Beer and debauchery?!
Dang!
MUST BUY HARLEY!
Hoss,
Pulchi ...where's my dictionary...
Vicki,
The weather is here.
Oh that is too funny! Did you know it was me? Or did you figure it out by the photos I was taking??? Or by the argument my daughter and I were in the middle of?? :)Looking forward to reading your post.
ReplyDeleteHey FC Good Survival Gear....Bama Breeze is a Great Song and was a great place. Speaking of Buffett, did you see Travis Magee. in a song Mr. Buffett says he is still in Cedar Key..
ReplyDeleteBut now I'm incommunicado...
Great pics...Talk to you soon.
Yours in the Bond.
Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI thought that was a negotiation not an argument :)
Scott,
The "Busted Flush" has weighed anchor.
