    Not being particularly familiar with Florida parks and sanctuaries I won't venture a guess.
    However, I am pretty sure it wasn't New York. lol

    Proving once again that great minds think alike, I posted about alligators today, too! 'Tis the season.

    Wherever you were, you were probably too close to the gator :)

    Aha, La Chua Trail, on the north end of Paynes Prairie! One of my favorite places!

    The other day, I saw a little gator (about two feet long) on the trail there; it was curious about some of us humans on the trail, and was walking towards us as if to check us out. So watch where you step out there!

    Dang, and I was excited yesterday when I saw a buffalo herd (can't roller skate) and 3 ostriches, both groups with babies. I gotta get over there and see those wild hoses.

    LOL, my word today is uneyed.

    Well, FC,
    I tried to go there (La Chua Trail?) during my recent Coastal Florida Tour 2009, but couldn't get a motel room because of something called Gator Nationals. Not even at the overpriced Hilton across from the Art and NH Museum. Or 20 miles up the road. I was dead tired and gave up. My last post details the recent trip through the Everglades, Keys, etc. Apparently I have a real knack for bad timing, but I did see plenty of gators - some were nekked - of both kinds. ;-)

    I can't decide which was my favorite - the one waiting in stealth for unwary canooers at the Turner River Canoe Launch, or the wet T-shirt contest winner in Key West.

    I was going to guess Punta Gorda but then I remembered you don't consider anything South of Ocala to be Florida.

    we were on La Chua Trail one time and there was a girl talking on her cell phone, so immersed in her conversation that she didn't notice she was pacing back and forth only four feet from an 11-foot alligator.
    yes, we interrupted her call to warn her ;-)

    Our house is in a neighborhood on the edge of Kanapapa Prairie, which borders Paynes Prarie! Looking forward to the rest of the posts! I miss living up there :(

    I took my kids on a field trip (during the coldest week we had in Florida this past January) to the panhandle and I wish I had photographed these signs. It brought back great memories. Thanks for sharing.
