On the way into the University of Florida's research station on Seahorse Key, the channel, and therefore the boat must pass close to a sand spit that is a popular bird dry
dock area.
Things were pretty laid back at the spit last Wednesday until a certain field tripping group of students cruised by on their way into Seahorse Key. |
The cormorants were the first to jump spit. |
The Brown Pelicans followed their lead. |
Of course, that started a chain reaction. |
Jumping spit seemed to be an appropriate response ... "birds of a feather" and all that. |
Of course, comfortably perched on one of the convenient pooping stations that surround the island, I didn't feel a need to panic like the rest. It's just a boat you bird brains.
Survival instincts do provide some nice photographic opportunities. Some birds do have that, "been there done that attitude."
ReplyDeleteNice! Florida is a gift that just keeps giving.
ReplyDeleteI like it, I like it, I like it. Not very often you get to see both American pelicans on the same spit. I've never seen that. Signs as "pooping stations," ha!
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots!
ReplyDeleteSo - if the birds left that area for, presumably, a similar one, does that mean they were swapping - never mind. I'm much more mature than that .....
What a lovely sight to see! You are so lucky to be able to have it.
