This is "Tigger", a Tiger Salamander. Tigger fell into a hole I had dug and could not get out. I took a small 5 gallon aquarium and glued in a piece of plexiglass to divide it into a "land" section and a "water" section. Tigger lived in this "Salamandarium" for over a year in my kid's bathroom. This photo is actually the day of Tigger's release back into the wild. Tiger salamanders are a mostly subterranean species of salamander. They come out on rainy spring nights to spawn in shallow ponds. Since Tiggers year-long visit with us, we have spotted other Tigers and their aquatic larvae on flashlight night walks around our small pond.
