We rescued this Florida Box Turtle from a busy highway and brought him home to our woods. The shot on the right shows the unique hinged plastron (underside) that all box turtles share. The hinge allows them to completely seal themselves inside their bony shell. This is why Feather could only sniff and wonder about what might be inside.
There are many different species of box turtles, but the Florida Box Turtle definitely has the prettiest shell markings...of course.Posted by Hello
