Junior Cottonmouth

There was an interesting cottonmouth discussion at Rurality the other day, so I thought I'd repost this picture of a young moccasin. This is the stage where they get confused with copperheads. Later this great print pattern fades. They have an aggressive reputation, but this guy was completely calm as my daughter and I photographed him from every angle.Posted by Picasa

  1. Beautiful, but I prefer to study your pictures of snakes instead of studying the real thing. Gorgeous pattern and color.

  2. Hick,
On this day, we also videoed this snake and when he uncurls, his markings form a perfect fox face. You can kind of see it even in this curled pic.

  4. Rick,
Can't do it cuz. Even the poisonous ones are underdogs these days. Somebody has to be on their side.
