Flowers make a small world-- our gaillardia look just like that blooming right outside our window. We don't have any of that horsemint, though. It's very pretty.
RD, Funny you would mention that. When I first started reading the Dharma Bums I thought I saw beautyberry in the background of one of your pics. It it was, that seems amazing that a plant can range from the tropics to the far north. I collected seeds from this gaillardia patch and they volunteer around my place.
Oh! I am soooooo jealous of your beautiful flowers. Our apples are starting to get to the picking point and we are starting to feel the fall air in the evening when the temps drop into the 50's.
By the way, I am hoping to make you jealous in October when I head up to Tahoe to take some pictures of the salmon returning to their roots to spawn. They turn the most beautiful shade of red.
I've seen that cheerfully colored gaillardia at Roundrock in Missouri, but I haven't seen it in a while, so it must be a spring-flowering plant in our zone. Thanks for the great photo.
