Two youngsters who have since grown. The human in the picture is my son who is now almost 14. The turtle is a very young gopher tortoise that hatched from a nest in my garden. Young gophers are tinted yellow, but this fades pretty quickly. My little buddy was pretty excited about the gopher as I recall.  Posted by Picasa

That's a wonderful photo of the two juveniles. It sure seems as though your children are experiencing a wonderful natural history education.

Thanks. It was the impending birth of the first child that caused me to rethink my nomadic Park Ranger experience, switch careers, and put down roots. It was really important to me that my kids were real Floridians. I have never regretted that decision.

Thanks. He broke into excited giggles each time the gopher got close to him. He does that now over his allowance...
