Banana Blossoms

Posted by Picasa

These are the fledgling bananas with blossoms still attached. Very sweet flowers that attract wasps, bees, etc. Don't walk under the banana tree barefoot when it's blooming unless you want a wasp sting on your toes.

Mega-cool! I have always thought it would be fun to have a banana plant or two. I've seen them advertised in catalogs. I grew two orange trees from seeds and they lived for sixteen years. Never produced any oranges though they did smell great. I kept them in large pots in my room and put them outside in the summer. The pots may have been an inhibiting factor.

Walter,
That's pretty impressive. From seed they probably would have been sour oranges. That's the usual rootstock.
Sometimes you can find one in the woods where somebody spit a seed years before. The oranges will wrinkle your face they are so sour.
