Grad Bashed

It's 5:36 am and I am not up early...I'm up late.

Today...no, wait....yesterday was Grad Bash at Universal Studios Orlando. My daughter Kate is a Grad to be...I got to be a chaperone.
Oh, the joy.

It went something like this:

3:30 PM---Get on too small school bus with 60 seniors and 4 other chaperones.

4:00 PM---Finally get a larger bus after numerous phone calls.

4:15 PM ---Begin 2 1/2 hour drive to Orlando. Excited seniors can be very loud...especially 60 of 'em cooped up in a bus for hours.

8:00 PM---Finally enter Universal Studios after ride, bus parking snafu, and general waiting at entrance.

8:00 PM to 2:00 AM---Listen to bands, walk around, ride rides, drink coffee, walk around, listen to bands, ride rides, drink coffee.

2:30 AM --- Board bus for another 2 1/2 hour bus ride. Kids are quieter now with 3/4 of them asleep and sprawled willy nilly.

4:30 AM---Get back to school site, wait for kids to leave or be picked up, get in Jeep for 20 minute drive home.

5:00 AM--- Blog excuse for not blogging this Sunday.

Gooooooooood Niiiiiiigggghhhhhhtttt!

Best dad ever!

Take an extra ten minutes to sleep in or nap today.

Yep - FC is a good guy. Hope the kids let you sleep, at least til 9am.

Seriously, parents who do this kind of thing rate about as high as it can get, for me.

You have more courage than I do!

That'll be me, next year! I still have good memories of Grad Night in High School, back in '79. Glad to see it's still being held for the seniors. Ours was at Disney World, however.

Our high school in Miami made the 5 hour bus trip up to Disney and back. Now that I'm a parent myself and have time to think back on it all...those parents who chaperoned should have had a medal! ;)

Get some rest today.. hope Katie had a great time!

Parenting is a trip! Just keep in mind that the big payoff is grand children! It's all worth it!

Ahh, how I miss the days of being a chaperone on school trips...sadly, I really do miss it sometimes :)

Hope your day is peaceful and quiet and you get plenty of sleep.

You're the best, FC. Pulling an all-nighter is really tough, but you did it for the best of reasons. I hope you are napping now. Sweet dreams.

Pablo,
You and your awards! There's a lot of bleary eyed parents in FL today.

Wayne,
It was a long evening/morning, but the kids were good, so that made it bearable.

Deb,
No, I just got here before you...you're time is coming :)

Laura,
5 hours on a bus...yes, they should have gotten a medal and a place in history.
I went to Disney Grad Nite in 75 and 76 (75 'cause I was dating an older (senior) woman)
They still do Grad Nite at Disney too, schools pick the one they want to go to. Our kids seem to always pick Universal's event.
I guess I'm going next year too since sweet Emma will be a senior.
...I'll be the guy with the large Starbucks coffee.

ThunderD,
No rush on that one.

Swampy,
It is an adventure, traveling with kids. Fun when it's all done and everyone is home safe.

RD,
Thanks. Slept in as late as I dared. I don't want to be up all night...again.

I got 3 hours....how about you?!?!

You are such a good father. My husband & I used to both chaperone on everything that concerned the kids...Besides being involved, you get to keep an eye on your kids.

Cinbad,
Slept from 6:00 to 10:00. Going to bed early tonight tho. See ya tomorrow.

Abandoned,
Exactly. Good for you...they need to know that we see, hear, and know everything.

The night of my daughter's senior prom I hosted an all night after party at our house. The parents knew ahead of time that their son/daughter would be locked down at my house and I would be collecting car keys to make sure that no one snuck out. The pool/patio area was decorated with baloons and tiki torches. Food and various non-alcoholic drinks flowed all night. At daybreak I served them a hugh breakfast and everyone went home. They had a great time. I was exhausted. My son is expecting the same for his senior prom next year. And I'll do it again.

Debbie,
Lucky kids, yours and your kids friends!

It's entirely possible that you saved one or more young lives with that simple, (but exhausting) idea.

Great plan.
