Sure, they look cute, these Lubber grasshopper nymphs, but just wait a few weeks.

After a quick childhood, they will be 3-4 inches long and a single one can decimate the foliage of your favorite plant.

They will also taste so bad that even the chickens won't eat them.

What's the matter with everybody...by this time everyone has been to your post? Don't your blogger friends like little cute baby grasshoppers?

That's a great picture.

You need bats? They got about 2 million of 'em in Texas.

Cute, take picture, then move in for the kill. I have seen what these things do and don't like them. True even my chickens wouldn't eat them. Good luck with getting rid of them.

Ugh - lubbers. They first made their appearance in Athens in the early 80's and yes, as babies with their little red racing stripes, they're cute as buttons. Then they become adults.

They do eat each other - especially when run over by a car there will be swarms of living ones all over the smatched body. But nothing else seems to.

I'm glad that I haven't seen them here, but it's probably just a matter of time.

That's why you're supposed to dip 'em in chocolate before ya eat 'em.

They are cute. Some things ya just gotta kill, though. When we lived in Santa Cruz snails tried to eat through everything in our yard. We would spend a fine morning tossing their sorry butts into the street and listen as cars ran over them. "So there," we said to them.

abandoned,
I think this post showed up really late instead of in the AM, when I posted it.

Hoss,
Got bats. Need money. Do they have that in Texas?

Doubleknot,
I squish em!

Wayne,
I particularly enjoy running over the many copulating pairs crossing the asphalt in the summer.

Hal,
Note to self: load sprayer with chocolate syrup. Thanks for the tip.

RD,
You are welcome to toss some of these.

DPR,
Even my fish would not eat tent caterpillars.
