The End...Goodbye

Last week, like I've done for 18 years, I locked the door to this room as my final official act of the current school year. In years past, I've kept my keys over the summer, because that allowed me to drop in to my lab for little chores that didn't get done during the regular school session.

This year is different. When I walked out of this old lab last week, it wasn't for the summer. It was for good.

This year, I turned my keys in.

I won't be needing them anymore. Posted by Picasa

You can't end a story there!!! Are you retired? Moving? Something more serious? What's up? Something tells me this story is going get as much attention as the 'haircut story' did. Maybe even more!

Yep - Wayne has the same questions, FC. This is poignant. The photo tells me so.

Poor kids. It will be a miracle if they ever have another teacher like you.

I've never met you, but in reading over your writings I know that this will be a major loss to the young adults and the school district you taught within. Hopefully someone will be found who might grow into the shoes you have left behind. Good luck with whatever endeavors you choose to pursue in the future.

Stop it!!! I know you're not retiring because you're: (a) too young (b) have kids to put through college

You're not moving into the world of big business, or back to being a park ranger.

Let me see if I can put my problem solving skills to work.

Answer: They've built a new school (or at the very least a new lab) and the old one is being either demolished or turned into a middle school.

So tell me, how'd I do 'teach?

Yes, thereby hangs a tale.

This is really just a rotten tease on your part! You're getting us all into a frenzy of speculation. It is a base manipulation of your fandom.

(Wish I had thought of it!)

Retirement? Nah, too easy and you're too young (and apparently dedicated, too). Maybe new classrooms? I need to check the news and see if a new school was built in your area... Hey! Looks like A Portable (knew them well)! I think I'm on to something...

I chose the new school theory. Either that, or you can come out here and teach science to Nerd Boy...not much pay, though. That may be an issue. But, there's lots of snakes out here. Maybe you could get a job at the place that does "humane rattlesnake removal." I'm sure he could use the help.

You sure know how to shake up the brains of your loyal readers, now don't you?

I think Zanne's on to something.

Gah! I am as equally traumatized as your other readers in response to this picture/post combo!

I'm hoping it's "on to bigger and better things" and not "the school board decided to lay off about 60000000 people" like it does here all the time. BAH!

You know, FC, this isn't very nice :P

Welp, you mentioned turning in the keys to the lab, but not a word about giving up teaching. My guess is you'll still be working at the school, but in a different position?

Either that, or you're sailing off to the Caribbean with the lovely Mrs. FC for a little nautical wheeling and some lazy day fishing. ;)

by the way, I tried three times but the pictures didn't open up for me, so I'm not sure if they were supposed to have a clue. I'll come back later and try pulling up the site again.

Boy, I feel sorry for that property you've got. It is in for it, now that you got nothing but time.

Congratulations (?) Cracker.

I have inside/local info-they built a new school! Hope the new lab is bigger and better!
