Road Trips And Old Girlfriends

Pure Florida will be a quiet place Saturday.
I'm heading up north to south Georgia to get reacquainted with an old girlfriend and explore a bit.
I'm sure I'll bring something back.

The picture above is of my daily commute to work. Nineteen of the twenty miles look like that. Notice the abundance of trees and the shortage of traffic. The last mile is a small town with one traffic light.
Speaking of work, here's a few things I overheard in my 7th grade class ...
"Did he get a haircut?"
"He looks older."
"He looks younger."
"He looks weird without it."
"He looks different."
"He looks like a turtle." (???)
What caused this cacophony of commentary?
I shaved off my moustache in preparation for a winter beard.
Speaking of winter, it is 50 glorious degrees F this morning in Pure Florida.
Fifty, fifty, fifty, fifty, fifty!!!!!
How suuuuwwweeeeeeeet it is!
Have a delicious weekend, I'll be back when I return.
heehee

  1. Well, good luck with THAT particular endeavour. And let's hope that what you bring home isn't contagious. ;-)

A creepy coincidence, however, as I completely shaved this morning as well. Hope springs eternal that I will look younger, but I'm a poor judge...

The commute doesn't look bad either. I'll trade you one rush hour cross town Atlanta commute for your 20 miles of natural peace.

    BTW, nice turtles.

  2. An old girlfriend. Now, there has to be a story behind that one. Was that the real reason you shaved off your moustache? ;0) I hope Mrs. FC is going along.

  3. Yep, looks like north Florida to me. Very different from my commute. I envy the lack of traffic. But then, you don't get to drive past an apparition of the VIrgin Mary in a water stain under a freeway overpass every morning.

  4. And I miss driving through Clearwater, FL as the crowds gather before the apparition of the Virgin Mary in a bank window.

  6. Hmmmm...old girlfriend...thinking it would be one that has four wheels or something along those lines ;) I remember when my Dad shaved his moustache after years...he looked very strange. And YES this weather is truly suuuuwwweeeeeeeet! heehee. Have a good trip.

  8. OOOH if felt SOO good this morning! I went out and sorted firewood this morning...got me in the mood for winter!
And I can see myself as one of those kids who's calling you a turtle.
Have fun in Georgia! Are you sure you're not going up there to hunt? Or has the season started yet?

  9. I bet I know who you're seeing and what you're bringing back! And, funny, I've never imagined you as a turtle...but now that you say that... ;)

  11. Very much like my commute, at least the lack of traffic part. I like it.

Fifty? I'll see your fifty, and I'll lower it to 32 here this morning. Fifty is balmy. :)

  12. Fifty? Are you happy 'cause that's nice and cool, or happy 'cause that's nice and warm? I'm confused.

    Again.

  13. Oh I hate when they talk about you as if you're deaf!

Have a nice trip - stay out of trouble!

  14. LauraH, that drives me nuts as well. But what can you do...

I'm curious exactly what will end up accompanying him on the return trip, but I'd bet it's some kind of creature... I'm sure there will be pictures.

  16. this weather talk is just awful. 80 and humid. i'm only a couple hundred miles from st. Augustine... what gives?

I too!! can't wait to hear this story. when you meet up with an old girlfriend usually there isn't a wife... :) its got to be you meant an old friend that just happens to be a girl? LOL

  17. if you have to drive 20 miles to work there's no better way for them to look.

it's hard not to be jealous of your weather (just 2 hours north of me) but then again i'm always glad for my garden that we rarely have frost or freezes... i guess you just can't have everything.

my guess would be mrs. fc is going with and it is "her" old girlfriend??... oops... that doesn't sound just right either. LOL

okay, can't wait to hear the rest of this story. have fun.

You can email me at dbeverlyhills@gmail.com and I will give you the Flickr address. Thanks. Hope you are having fun with the friend who happens to be a girl ;)

  19. It was finally 50 last morning and this morning here also. I'm glad my transplanted butt is not the only one thinking that feels good, even the natives are liking it. That commute looks very similar to mine. And after living in Los Angeles for 16 years I'm loving every second of it.

  20. To All,
Perhaps I failed to mention that the old girlfriend was Mrs. FC? I am still friends with my best old girlfriends, but we don't hang out together or go on weekend getaways.

Mrs. FC and I have not been able to slip away on anniversaries for a few years due to kid responsibiities, soccer, etc. We would put it off and then it never seemed to happen. This year, even if a week late, we took a little jaunt north to slow down and just be together without a schedule.

    That's a rare thing.

We even got a jump start on some Christmas shopping so we are not swallowed alive by the desperate hordes in a month or so.

It was all very nice. I didn't take my camera out of the bag once or leave the pavement, but a little change is good for ya'.

I am itching to shoot something now though ... photographically I mean.

Thanks for dropping in and commenting!

    I'm going outside.

  21. Sounds like the perfect way to spend a finally cool Saturday!

I spent the day in Daytona. Well, most of it was actually driving to and from Daytona. ABout 5.30PM, after we'd had supper and were slowly making our way back through town before heading home, I realized I hadn't taken my camera out of the bag all day. But a white pigeon was just too tempting.

Hope you find something wonderful to shoot at today.

  22. Sophie,
I played tourist in Cedar Key today.
    Gorgeous day.

  23. I could handle that commute. I pass winn Dixies and strip malls. And a few massage parlors with an all girl staff.

  24. Cool, it's good to get away together. :)
