In Marine Science class a few weeks ago, I gave my students the assignment to illustrate some concept or idea from the unit on water's unique properties, hydrostatic pressure, tides, gyres, dissolved gases, wave structure and behavior, etc.
Along with the general instruction above, I handed them a menu of ideas for the vehicle to create their masterpiece. Its a long list that includes over a hundred ideas, but a sample would include poetry, resumes, scripts, interviews, art, pantomime (nobody ever picks that one), songs, newspaper articles, and food. They could pick any two ideas to produce their products.
Two of my girls chose to explain wave structure and movement, so they baked this cool wave cake to illustrate some of their points. After their presentation, we adjourned to the cafeteria to eat their project.
It was delicious.
The hamburger above is not.
It's a cookie ... or rather a cookie combination.
The buns are vanilla wafers glazed with a little honey to hold a few sesame seeds.
The lettuce is coconut dyed green.
Condiments are icing dyed appropriately.
The burger patty is a chocolate cookie, Grasshoppers I think.
The amazing thing is, not only do they look cool, they taste great ... pretty sweet as you can imagine, one was enough for me ... or did I have two?
FANaticism. Y'all know who that is in the quasioperafatlady helmet and Gator decor.
Not a food pic of course, but I owe my day off today to the Florida Gators Homecoming weekend, so I thought I should show the colors. Today is parade day in Gainesville. The school where I work is so close to G-ville that attendance was always nil on Gator Homecoming parade day, so our county finally wised up and made it a day off.
Suwweeeet! Not only am I off, but a cold front is flowing in and it promises to be a deliciously cool, breezy, clear azure sky day here at PFHQ. It's 62 right now (YES!!) and the low for Saturday is forecast at 45 degrees F.
Did I say Suwwweeeeet yet?
Tomorrow, I'm heading south to Brooksville to attend the Florida Cracker Cattle auction. I'm not buying as I had hoped, but I'm going to look, learn, and mingle with real Florida cows and real Florida folks. I'll take the camera of course ... and my cowboy hat.
This post is technically Thursday's missing post, so look for a second post today, the REAL Friday post.
I have no idea right now what it will be, but I'm sure I'll get into something today.
I just have to go find it.
