Pure Frogida

Let me know if this is a flop. Sharing video is generally something I don't attempt since I'm still working on dialup out here on the frontier. As I write, I'm still not sure if the video file actually uploaded correctly at 49.2 kbps.

I couldn't resist attempting a very short snippet of digital camera video (not real video camera video) today.

It's not so much a visual file as it is a sound file. Last night was Pondapalooza down at our real pond which finally has a foot or so of water in it. It's only had water for a week or two, but already it is full of countless tadpoles and last night the toads and frogs were down there adding more.

The sound was amazing and so were the amphibian antics. I have some decent still shots to share with you tomorrow, but for today ...

... just listen.

Hope you choose to do more.

That was music to my ears! I was just thinking about the frog chorus last night, looking forward to it.

A lovely chorus, FC. Am I seeing little beady eyes?

Ahhh, the sounds of summer. Don't you just love it!

I used to live in a condo on a lake. In the spring this sound would reverberate all night long - I didn't like it - sounded too alienish to me....

3C,
It was incredible down there last night.

Carrie,
Me too! I hope they sing tonight also!

Pablo,
Will do. I'll keep them very short so they'll upload in our lifetime.

Deb,
I bet you have it in surround sound with the creek and pond so near!

Cathy,
I was wearing a headlamp, but it was weakening. There is a toad in the darkness tho.

Debbie,
I love it, but the heat and humidity of summer is welcome to stay away for a while longer!

Suze,
It can get earsplitting at times. It was fairly otherwordly down there in the dark last night.

It works! We've had problems viewing videos since switching from Norton to McAfee and can't see anything on Youtube, for example, but this Blogger video worked just fine.

Not much to look at, but it sounds great. :)

Perhaps a quick video from perspective of the JEEP, bouncing down a wild Florida trail, in the future?

Yes! That's great. What a fantastic froggy symphony. Thanks for taking a chance on your dial-up. It's grand.

Great slimy potpourri! I think that long trill at the end is a toad, but you've got quite a mixed chorus there.

This was great. It worked so well. I'm hoping to do a similar thing with nighjars in the summer. They make a gorgeous sound but you cant see them in the dark. More, more....

Hey Daddy! I let Corinne listen to the frogs and she wanted it on a CD so we could go to sleep to it from now on lol. See you soon. I love ya!

Whoa, they are busy little guys at night! The ponds around here are just flowing again because of all the rain. I hope it stays that way through the dry season!

Great job! And it didn't take forever and a day to load even!

Our frogs are finally singing again, as well. I have yet to hear our sheep-frogs, though. I'll never forget the first time I heard one. Who woulda thunk that bleat was coming from a toad?! You can hear it at http://www.enature.com/fieldguides/detail.asp?recnum=AR0544

PS... I'm getting some interesting word verif's lately. Today's is JYOMUD.

Alan,
I have 2 short vids to come. Gotta keep them incredibly short just to upload.

Robin,
I thought you would appreciate that music!

Dan,
You are correct, tons of toads!

Jane,
Looking forward to Nightjars!
I will toss in short vids from time to time.

Emma,
Me too!

Laura,
Busy little guys AND gals :)

Sophie,
Sheep frogs? That is a new one on me.
