Well, finally ...
Bloooooooger likes me again and has allowed me to upload a video clip.
This Southern Fence Lizard (Sceloporus undulatus undulatus) is the same one from the Lizard Lounge Off post of recent history.
This lizard is a male, (see the blue patch?), and he is doing a territorial display. What's neat is that he is either ...
- ... doing it for the benefit of other lizards in the area as a territorial display with me, a large potential predator standing right there.
or
2. ... doing it to me to let ME know that this is his log and I should back off.
Either way, he gets points for bravado.
If you are feeling a bit stressed, watch the video repeatedly. The combination of someone else doing pushups coupled with soothing background noise is just the thing for office cubicle syndrome.

Too Funny! I'm totally free of stress now!
I love it when a tiny animal's ego/bravado is so big that they they bully a much larger preditor! Except of course when it's those dang jumping spiders!
Very cool FC - I just got back on the island after a trip to the southern part of your fabulous state myself and will be posing some cool floridian (and ex-pat) herps in the near future too (I dipped out on the crocs and pythons though so will have to revisit - shucks).
My boys found this guy very entertaining.. They and I crowded around my computer and watched the video several times.. They were even counted how many pushups he did..
We don't have those guys around here. At least I've never seen them. Our guys just do the head bob. I've never seen full on push-ups. The bravado reminds me of my old ferret Koti. I remember one time when he was clawing at the bottom of the bathroom door to get out. I chastised him and pulled him away a couple of times. The last time he turned around, planted all four feet, looked up at me, and defiantly hissed! I couldn't help but laugh at the bravery of this little guy and his determination to get his way!
I saw some lizards (in the hotel) at St. Croix that did this. I wasn't impressed. If they did it with one arm, maybe.
Maybe he wanted to see how many you could do?procrin
Thunder,
Glad to be of destressful assistance.
Tai,
I've yet to see a croc in the wild myself.
Kitty,
Glad they had fun with it. Pretty neat critter.
NFMgirl,
I once watched my pals ferret get ticked and run up his pants leg. I shut the door to quiet his screams.
Pablo,
I wish I could do that.
Annie,
I think I could take this lizard.
I sure wish they were as easy as he makes them look!!
Hats off to your lizard friend. He has excellent form!
Lisa,
Well, he has a lot less weight to push up then the rest of us.
Miz S,
Listen to you! 4 trips to the gym and you are an expert.
LOL!
Lizard on a rock.
Warms up with five push-ups.
Followed by a sprint.
I tried to match his pace. He won.
I will have to live vicariously through the fence lizard, since there's no way in hell my poor body is gonna do a push up! ;0
Master,
Nicely done.
Freste,
You can do this.
Dani,
Okay, he wins the pushup prize, you take the spirit prize. :)
Love the rooster crow!
Cathy S,
They do that ALL the time!
