Beach Bear

Moon Doggie.

Bear tests the water before plunging in.
It was just right.

The seas were RUFF!
Bear was brave.

... and a little crazy.

I didn't think to pack the 3o foot long lead and I was really missing it as I was tugged and tossed by 102 pounds of excited Beardog.

I was not about to let him run free, not with sanderlings and willets about. I've chased him enough with chickens in his mouth and the thought of miles of open beach ruled out any free ranging on his part.
Long leash next time though!

This is our token artsy shot.
Does it speak to you?

Bear has a low opinion of phylum Cnidaria.

Go to the light Bear, go to the light.
The JEEP is at the other end of the sunbeam.

We romped for quite a while on an empty beach and then we rested in the shade of the JEEP. The tide was fairly high when we entered the beach and the ramp signs said, "Four Wheel Vehicles Only". That kept the tourismo hordes up near the ramps and it was only a minute or two after accessing the beach that we were alone with a long, lonely stretch of beach in front of us.
High tide and the fabled Florida-Georgia game coincided that afternoon.
The combination kept lots of people in front of TV's instead of outdoors, which is just fine by me.
Whatever floats your boat football fans, but I'd much rather be out here than sitting on my ... Fan-E.

Is this dog massive or what?
I swear he gets taller every day.
Bear was one pooped puppy on the way home. He curled up on his blankie in the back seat and snoozed all the way to Gainesville. My JEEP is a sandy hairy mess, but this is as it should be.

Before we left the beach area, we hit a little BBQ stand for sustenance on the way home.
More on that tomorrow, plus, another video, Bear vs. Flotsam.

It's a good thing you are P90x-ing, otherwise 102 pounds of Bear might have bested you.

That empty beach calls to me.

It's been such a joy watching Bear grow up. He was the reason we got Ollie. I think John just got tired of hearing me whine that Elizabeth needed a puppy.lol

Did Bear finally get free roam of the beach? I was in Coronado Island, CA one year and they have a "dog beach" ..they all run free and play together..it was fantastic.

...I suppose you had just finished explaining to bear the popular cure for jellyfish stings. I guess he didn't quite understand the typical sequence of events, though.

You're very brave about your camera, with that beast on the other hand. What a great day for the two of you. Laughed hard at "Go to the light."

Miz S,
I hang on and pray.

Dani,
That is so special... to think that Bear inspired puppiness in your household.
Let me guess, John is completely under the spell of dog magic too right?

Carol,
If he didn't get so hard headed when it comes to chasing after birds, etc. I think we will just stick to my 30 foot leash the next time.

Hurricane Teen,
Dang son.
Where ya been?
Yes, I told him vinegar is much preferred over urine, but he's a dog and thinks urine is the cure for everything.

Vicki,
I was dodging spray and moving quick to keep my camera out of the Atlantic.
Glad you enjoyed Bear's beachcombing.

Hey FC,
My daughter was married on that beach on October 22nd at the Butler Beach walkover. What a wonderful treasure we have. I too got to bring my 4 wheel drive Rav4 onto the beach for a little romp. Bear is such a giant dog! Did you have any clue when you first got him that he was going to be so huge? Brownie is only a little over half his size at 75 lbs, and the vet wants him to lose 10. Thanks for sharing, now I won't get any work one. Billy

The comment about Bear hauling around with a chicken in his mouth and the pee pee shot made me laugh so hard. What a great dog!

I my dog, Quincy, over to the beach for the first time at Ft. Desoto Park. They had a dog beach. Very cool!

Bear has become such a glorious man-dog. The sequence where you're both running has an artfilm feel to it. How I wish you could let him off the lead and see what happens!
