TWO NEW OSPREYS WHO ALMOST WEREN'T

New life ... 2 new lives to be exact.

Tomorrow is the final day of the 2013 - 2014 school year and it seems fitting to post this picture now.

We began this school year back in August with a bit of serendipity ... a chance comment by the school receptionist.
The county needed pictures of the old ball field light post that the ospreys used for nesting each year. The ancient, dead lights below the nest were dangling and a hazard.
"Would you mind taking a few pictures of the light pole when you are out there at the lab?"
That comment set in place a chain reaction of events that I've covered in more detail back in August.

Short story: The old hazardous pole came down and a new pole, made just for the ospreys by Central Florida Electric Cooperative, went up.

And now, 10 months later, the new empty platform has been transformed into a cozy nest with 2 healthy osprey chicks.

If you build it, or in this case, replace it, they will come.

Making the world a better place, two fish hawks at a time. That is a mighty fine bird picture, Mr. Powers. Keep this avian photography up and soon you will also know every peep and chirp of each Florida bird. Thank you for intervening on behalf of these fine creatures.

Thanks all. I had worried the birds might skip this year due to the disruption, but they seemed to take it in stride.
Nice ending to this school year.
