Don't Click Away...It's Not Another Dog Post...It's My 20th Anniversary
The focus in this picture is not the dog...I promise... (although he is pretty adorable).
Wednesday is my 20th wedding anniversary and I'm not sure what to do. I have never gone steady this long before and am at a loss as to the best way to celebrate this milestone.
The carefree girl in the photo has turned into a wonderful woman, wife, and mother who deserves something special, but is married to me.
I met her at a college mixer in my dorm. I had been in the dorm for a year and the new school year was starting. The dorm had a little get together in the commons so the new and old dorm residents could meet. I was standing in a small group of people expounding on "floundering" when this new blonde girl walked up and not only knew what floundering was, but challenged ME on the best way to flounder. It was love at first argument...
Anyway, I never stood a chance and now here I am, married 20 years and clueless. We both work, so running away on the 5th won't work, the kids have soccer, etc this weekend so the romantic weekend getaway is a problem.
Okay, bloggers and surfers, I am open for suggestions...

Twenty years...and they said it wouldn't last.
She's a beautiful woman that's for sure.
I checked the web and the 20th anniversary is traditionally a gift of china. Whatever that heck that means. You're certainly not going to gift her with some dishes!!!
OK, OK, I'm thinking, but I'll have to get back to you.
Everyone else feel free to chime in with something clever.

I've been married to one of your fellow "flounders" for 22 years and my favorite gift is still the time he showed up at my work in a tux and 15 of the most beautiful roses I've ever seen! Then he went home and cooked a great meal which Dude served to us as our own private waiter! I didn't realize our anniversary was so close to yours (9/23/83) Whatever you come up with I'm sure she will love it just as much as she loves you!
Happy Anniversary-
One year L and I gave each other machetes as anniversary gifts, but we were stomping about the woods by then, and they made good sense.
I think your appropriate gift is obvious. You should give her a DOG!

FC,
Hey I recognize that girl! I seem to recall the floundering too. It might have been love at first sight, but it sure took you awhile to figure out that you should marry her! (lol)
WOW 20 years, Congratulations!
It just doesn't seem like it's been that long does it?! Given the circumstances I think the best thing to do is along the lines that Lightnin suggests, I'd cook her favorite meal for her. Possibly set the table with some nice flowers (possibly candles too) and open a nice bottle of wine. Kids or not, it's still a pretty nice presentation!
Well you could GO to China, but that might be a bit much. :)
Anyway, congrats! Hope you have many more.
Twenty years! Congrats to both of you! She is a beautiful lady, that's for sure :))
You could try doing something similar to what my hub did for me on that one monther's day years ago. I wrote about it on my post here:

of course, you'll find something that suits both of you. Congrats and here's to the next 20 as well! :)
What Laura said - that's it...and a nice home cooked dinner - flounder.
Congratulations on your 20th anniversary.
I can only echo what the others have said. It really doesn't matter what the particulars are but that they occur in a moment of love and romance. From a picnic to a candle-lit dinner as long as the face across from yours is the one that claims your heart, that's the celebration. Enjoy.
First, to everyone, thank you for your kindness.
Zanne,
I saw that China was traditional and platinum was modern for 20. Hmmm...
Pablanonymous,
A puppy gift would be spectacular ......for me! It would be like me giving her a Harley, a new Glock pistol, that custom castnet, ....they see through stuff like that you know!
Rurality,
So glad you are back in Pure Florida...missed your wit! She does love Kung Pao Chicken...
Thing,
A blender! A platinum blender made in China, that's it!
Laura,
I read that post...do I have to break my leg too? :)
RD,
You are SUCH a romantic...that's a good thing!
DPR,
You are right, it is a mutual celebration. She is shy about pics, ...she doesn't know I posted her on Pure Florida. Shhhhh.
ThunderD,
You were there buddy, right from the start. Good ol'dorm 68.
Congratulations to both of you, and best wishes for many more!
By the way...she and I could be sisters; she looks a lot like me!
Thanks Deb,
You must be quite lovely. :)
Lightenin,
Sorry I skipped your comment in my replys. I can just picture ThunderD in a tux and lederhosen!
Five years ago, on our twentieth, my hubby was away at ALERT (annual law enforcement refresher training), so I have no suggestions :)
We generally go hiking or paddling on our anniversaries...yeah, I know, I'm a cheap date ;) Doesn't really matter what you do, does it? As long as you are together.
Machetes? I worry about Pablo sometimes.
Actually I think you gave her one of the nicest gifts...this post. You are a romantic and sorry I missed your anniversary. Hope you had a happy one.
PS...does floundering mean fishing for flounder? And, how come I can never find flounder in the grocery store?
Swamp,
Ah yes, the annual refresher...I remember.
Hick,
Pablo concerns me too...he's afraid of ladders you know. As for floundering, you go out at night with a light and a gig (spear) and you gig the flounder as they lay in the shallows.
Happy happy belated anniversary! Pretty lady - nice couple! Many, many more. Hope you found something special to do.
Nice quiet movie and dinner date...sans our wonderful kids. It was nice.
