Cracker What?

Okay, my first post ever vanished into nothingness and then Blogger went down for a few days, so here I go again...
First, lets's get this out of the way: If you think Cracker is a racial epithet and this is some kind of "white power, confederate battle flag-flying, south will rise again" kind of site, well... you're wrong.
"Cracker" is an old name for the tough, poor, settlers of south Georgia and Florida. My own Cracker lines in Florida go back to the late 1700's when Florida was still a British colony. These folks were fishermen, live-oakers, dirt farmers, and cattlemen. They even have a horse and a type of cattle that carry the Cracker name.
Pure Florida is my place to celebrate traditional Florida, not the concrete and plastic matrix that covers so much of the state. Here on the Nature Coast there are more trees than condo's, more natives than transplants, and people who can honestly and proudly call themselves Crackers.
I will educate and editorialize from time to time as I share the nature, culture, and history of Florida's last frontier.
