This is a young water moccasin. The markings are distinct and vivid in the young "cottonmouth", but these will fade as this snake matures. Adult coloration is a duller brown with faint olive tones. These are feisty venomous snakes, but an important part of Pure Florida wetland ecosystems.

I never thought of the word "feisty" when I dealt with water moccasins. Mean or cranky or just "pissed-off" was more like it. I've never been a snake killer, but some moccasins seemed to almost dare me to do it. Luckily for them, the Alligator Farm only bought live snakes.
