This is the actual Manatee Spring. Normally this large spring bowl would have swimmers, snorkelers, and SCUBA divers exploring the clear waters. On this visit, the spring was closed to swimming due to floodwaters on the Suwannee River. Manatee Spring flows into the Suwannee and when the Suwannee floods, the dark tannin waters of the river flow up towards the spring. It was weird to be there in the summer and not hear the laughter and sounds of people enjoying the cool 72 degree spring water.
