A couple days after the trip to the emergency room, they let me take off the original bandage. This is what I found. The other fingers were cut up pretty bad also, but not like this one.
Somebody once said "Scars are like tattoos, only with better stories". I always liked that saying.
I may be turning into a book.

Isn't digital photography wonderful!
Pablo,
I started to explain that this was a 35mm shot and then it hit me...you really are a clever rascal.
I just wanted to be the one to say it before the Dread Pirate Roberts had. It's really something I could "hear" him saying.
hang on, i'm going to run outside and get my hub. he has got to hear this story....
(I think he's going to sympathize with you, actually. He's got a few stories like this one as well. One of 'em sent him to Shands Hospital too! LOL)
Yikes. That's quite a photograph. Did you take it yourself?
Taking a break from...actually afraid to start...my first attempt at drywalling.
Laura,
I hope his turned out well. My finger is pretty good now. Pretty lucky I guess.
RD,
Yes, I took it. I wish I had thought to take one on the boat when it was all dangly, but I was too busy bleeding. I did take progressive healing shots. I won't bore y'all with those.
DPR,
Left hand ring finger. No wedding ring of course, I lost it in the Gulf some time ago...shhhh. Hot mufflers...oh yeah...who among us does not sport a hot muffler scar? The motorcycle ones leave a neat imprint. :)
FYI to all,
The finger healed pretty well. The nail eventually came off completely and then regrew. Except for a crease scar on each side, it looks like it did pre-stupidity. Inside, there is an 8mm titanium screw in the bone. Something for the archaeologists...
#1 Son has a couple of screws in his hand. I'm hoping it will disqualify him for the draft when it comes.
Too bad it wasn't your index finger, cuz then we could call you Frodo.
Pablo,
I had to ask my 14 year old son, the star wars/lord of the rings expert about the Frodo finger thing.
Forget you sitting down...I had to sit down for this one.
I think we all have those "stupid things I have done" stories. Mine also involves a finger, the tip of which I chopped off using one of those rotary blade cutting tools (sewing). My mother in law was there and I said, "I've cut the end of my finger off"...to which she replied, "Ok, well call me from the hospital and let me know what happened."!!!!!! The nurses at the hospital flipped out when they discovered I'd driven myself in.
Zanne,
Nice mother in law! Hope you got the finger reattached.
Just plain EWWWWW.
Weary,
I know it really was icky. Much better now!
I could not bring myself to post a comment on this picture because everytime I looked at your poor finger it gave me the willies. Glad to hear you are better now.
Hick's advice: Don't do dumb things and this won't happen.
Heh!
By the way...my husband gave me the same story about his wedding ring, only he lost it in the Pacific TWO DAYS AFTER WE WERE MARRIED. Oh brother! Do you guys belong to some secret men's club that publishes a list of excuses?
Hick,
I actually have a post about my wedding ring in reserve...
I'd tell you about the men's club, but it's a secret.
I am working on the reduction of doing dumb things.
:)
