Walking Around The Homestead: Blue Curls

Weather report: 36 degrees here today! Yippee!!

This is one of my favorite wildflowers, because it's so easy to miss. It's got tiny leaves, tiny flowers, and the whole plant grows about knee high.I didn't measure them, but the blossoms are about a centimeter in size. This photo doesn't really do them justice.

At this writing, and with this morning's cold, our blue curls are done. They like the sunny/shady region near the pond tree line. Where tiny blue blossoms were earlier, there are now small cups holding even tinier dark seeds.

A walk from the house to the pond takes you right through the blue curl zone. Posted by Picasa

Lovely! I can't tell you how excited I was to find them here. We spied them on Old Martin Road, a dirt road, during a dry spell and they were completely covered with dust. They're much happier here.

Ours however are gone for the season. Thanks for posting the pic.
