How about that sign? Are we country or what?

This is the entrance to the school in a neighboring county that hosted our Nerd Tournament today. The bear is their mascot and not part of the hunting season sign.

Your eyebrows might be raised at this moment, but the sign is an important reminder in a rural community where a teenager might do some hunting before or after school. Today's school weapon laws are rigidly enforced (as they must be) and you don't get a second chance if you forget and come to school with your 12 guage in the pickup. Posted by Picasa

Yep, I can relate. I had to remind a few of my students that they couldn't bring their shotguns to school.

Wow... Does that bring back memories.

Thought those days were history.

Swampy and Fat Man,
At my high school in St. Augustine back in the mid-70's it was common to see student trucks with gunracks and guns during hunting season. I don't remember it being an issue, but it was long before the current school shootings trend.
Zero tolerance these days.

at SAHS we all had guns in the gun racks year round, then again we didn't dress in black and hate everyone

My Lovely wife grew up in a small town and recounts that almost all of the trucks in the parking lot would have racks and guns in them during hunting season. But then you used to be able to leave your car unlocked with the keys in it a while back too! Civilization? Advanced Culture? Sometimes I wonder!

Me, too. I never had a gun rack in my car...come to think of it, I didn't have a car until my last year in college and I walked to school. But many of my friends did.

Ha! I initally misread the sign...Vehicles as weapons? Probably that would apply to my oldest.
