Here's A Family Picture While I Make A Cake

This picture has nothing to do with this post, which is not really a post as much as an excuse. It's my bride's birthday and I don't have enough butter or sour cream in the house to make her poppyseed cake that she requested. So I'm off 15 miles to the nearest grocery store. Arrrghhhh!

I hope she likes the new table saw I got her...something we can enjoy together.

UPDATE: THE CAKE MAKING WENT WELL. THE FLOUR WAS FLUFFY, THE SUGAR WAS SUGARY, AND THE EGG WHITES WHIPPED COOPERATIVELY INTO STIFF PEAKS...this was no mix cake, it's the recipe on the back of the SOLO poppyseed filling label. Posted by Picasa

Happy birthday to the beautiful Mrs. FC! I must say you are a man of many talents. How cool that you are baking her birthday cake. She's going to love that table saw too. Oh the romance of it all.

Happy Birthday to your missis. The cake sound wonderful - and it is nice you are making what she requested.
A table saw - well if this had been quite a few years ago for me you wouldn't get a chance to use it. My ex bought me a nice tool set for Xmas once and everyone teased him that he would be the one using it - no way - it was mine.

Happy Birthday to Mrs. Cracker! As a scout-type, weren't you taught to be prepared, FC? The saw- a winner, I just know it. And the pig appears to be making progress in that direction, too. I'm not going to be happy the day that piggy goes to market.

True story: Libby and I once gave each other machetes for our anniversary. Tablesaws make good sense. Happy Birthday to someone who gets the adventure of being married to FC.

Group confession...I was kidding about the table saw...do you think I have a death wish?

She was treated with a family dinner at Frog's Landing in Cedar Key, a decorative dohiggy thingy she liked, breakfast in bed courtesy of her kids, and a new picnic table.

She would have actually have loved a riding mower, but hey, it's her birthday, not Christmas.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes to her.
...and now to each of you.

DPR,
Your table saw doesn't have the mincing attachment?

RD,
She's not in to sweet stuff (except for me) and a non iced poppyseed cake is her favorite cake. I bake one on her birthday and one on mother's day.

Doubleknot,
She actually does have her own set of stuff for house repairs that don't involve tearing things up. That's my job.

Vicki,
Okay, another confession...that was a shot from some farm down the road. I just liked the cow and pig hanging out together and pulled over for a shot. OUR pigs are much more muscular than that one. They are growing like crazy. I was scratching their ears today thinking I was really going to miss this pair when the time comes. Less than a month now...

Deb,
Thanks, last night at Frogs as we listened to a little local band up on the 10 by 5 foot stage, I thought, this is what Deb does.

Girl,
I really didn't, I promise.

Pablo,
Adventure? You are too kind.

It sounds like your wife had a very nice birthday.
I would have loved that table saw. I'm a sucker for tools...that's one of my weakness' when shopping, the other one is electronics.

It's nice to see a man cook...bet your wife enjoyed her cake.

Abandoned,
I learned to like cooking early as I thought for sure I'd never get married and I love to eat well.

Happy Birthday to Madam Cracker, even if she does like UF. I don't think I've ever heard anything sound quite so much like adoration as a poppyseed cake offering, especially given the extra effort put into it!

Wayne,
Thanks. We won't mention to her that you went to FSU. She's too Gator Nutty.
As for the effort... We don't need no stinking store bought cakes here!

That particular poppyseed cake recipe is delicious. My mom still makes me one for my birthday. Sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top and have it with strong, hot coffee. Mmmm. Oh yeah, happy day, Missus.

There's something comfy, homey feeling about that farm photo of yours.

mtnbike,
Exactly the way I like to eat it...when she shares :)

Tim,
I agree, it has a Currier & Ives feeling to it. That's a ranch not far from my place.

Hmm I'm going to have to see photographic evidence of all these alledged cakes!

(Just kidding. Hubby cooks much better than me!)

Rurality,
I'd have to use a fast exposure because they shrink really fast around here.
