Beef Au Jus

soggy

The cattle in these pictures are grazing in the bed of a very shallow lake that stretches for miles. This "land" varies from bone dry to being submerged under several feet of water, depending on season and tropical storms.

juicy

I took these shots about a month ago and this is now a dry lake bed.

Yesterday, the small shrubby tree near the cows in this picture was white with cattle egrets.

Off topic:
Thunder Dave at Thunder and Lightning has posted some photos about his trip to Manatee Springs...check out the snake in the tree. Worth a click. Posted by Picasa

Now that's what I call Surf-n-turf!

Hey man thanks for the plug on my postings!

FC, you were right, Thunder Dave's got it going on at his site. The picture of the black vulture was particularly appealing. Thanks for the head's-up.

Surf-n-turf.. lol..

In the first pict.. is it normal for cows to be so bony? The white one looks impoverished to me.

And now I'm off to see Dave's picts!

Looks mosquito-y!

Hmmm, tse-tse flies. Any day now.

Hmm, Jasmine could get dirty chasing the cows, and then wash herself off at the same time!

Looks like the soggy cattle land around here. Our cows are different.

I guess the commercial about happy CA cows is right. Yours look kinda bony.

Hey everyone! In the first picture that cow is not boney. Instead, that bull is boney. Sheesh.

So cows don't mind standing around in water. Who knew? That first photograph with the reflection is so pretty. Really nice. I guess you didn't have the camera with you yesterday when the tree was white with cattle egrets. Maybe next time. I'm hoping.

Gee that place looks familar. Could be cause I am in Florida also and places like that lake are around - I say that knowing that a lot of those places are disappearing rapidly where we live.

ThunderD,
Hey those needed to be seen!

Swampy,
The vulture looked like the grim reaper to me.

Laura,
Definitely a skinny bovine...I wonder why with all that juicy grass.

RM,
It will be when it refloods, the spring drought has dried it up.

Wayne,
It does have a subsaharan look about the scene. Just need a Masai in the foreground.

Rurality,
Tell her to mind the gators.

Hick,
It's bikini season, everybody's shedding winter weight.

Pablo,
Thank you for steering us straight on that.

RD,
I didn't have time to stop, but will try and do better next time.

doubleknot,
You're right, you can see this scene replayed around the state.

I love these posts because I always think of Florida as overrun with people, and you show there's plenty of land (but not, I hope, for more people).
