The idea of the mullet tossing contest is (duh) to see who can toss the mullet the farthest. I was photographing strangers (the picture above)tossing the fish just to have something to show you, when my brave sister in law, Wanda got in the tossing line.

Wanda (in red shirt with fish) is a great softball player so we had high hopes for her...

Alas, she had a really strong throw with great distance, but did not make the top three. Here we see the champion mullet tossers after just receiving their clamshell medallions of victory. Posted by Picasa

Imagine what was going through my mind when I read about "mullet tossing" and thought that a mullet was a kind of hairstyle some men wear.

In Missouri we would never do something this silly. Instead we practice the fine art of cow pie tossing and hold Testicle Festivals (really!).

Good thing I was not drinking coffee when I read Pablo's post. I haven't laughed that hard in quite a while. Plus, I thought it was hair tossing, also. Now that kind of mullet tossing I can get behind...but fish? What would possess anyone to start this kind of contest? Do the fish taste so bad that the best you can do with them is toss them over the side of the boat? I don't get it.

But, I also don't understand why anyone would think to eat cow or sheep testicles either. Some people's kids...

I tossed my mullet long ago! When/where are the international championships held this year? ;-)

Pablo,
I had forgotten about that hairstyle. That WOULD be strange! Testicle Festivals?
...um...uh...

Hick,
Mullet are pretty tastey and are somewhat of a staple around here. The same two mullet were tossed repeatedly so it wasn't a huge waste of filets.

ThunderD,
I think this is it!

Aww!! Tell Wanda to practice up - I'm sure she'll make it next year!

Mrs. S,
You're right, practice makes perfect.
