Maybe Pablo Could Make One Of These.

Pablo, of the most excellent Roundrock Journal posted today about his and Libby's experience casting bronze sculptures. It's a fascinating process and worth a look.

Plus, it finally gave me a reason to post this beautiful bronze Spanish cannon from my old work site, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.

Go to Roundrock to see how the artsy part of this weapon was done!

As for me, I'm off to Tampa/Clearwater to check out a used car for Katie College Kid....there's probably a future post there too ..."Grouchy Dad Goes South To The Urban Jungle Car Shopping ,Which He Detests Almost As Much As Being Surrounded By Millions Of Just Moved Here Transplants Who Have Ruined This Once Pleasant Region Of The State And Almost Killed Tampa Bay With Their OverFertilized Golf Courses And Their Insatiable Demand For Water Even As They Pave Every Last Acre."

Have a great Saturday!

You bold printed part of the post I almost could have written to describe our wooded lands and how transplanted people are cutting down our woods, building their subdivisions, and buying seedling trees for their yards, building roads everywhere and rebuilding old roads into highways. Why can't they just stay in the cities where they belong.

Whoo Hoo! Amen! To ALL of that. Good luck with the car and good luck to daughter!

Having gone through two instances of the "I'm off to college and need a car" routine, my sympathies go with you. Especially if you have to venture into "civilization" to achieve your objective!

Re/ your other post. I picked up a great little 2000 Ford Escort Sport that had cold air, new tires, fantastic paint and interior at West Coast Autos for $4000 for my nursing school clinical travels. Honest guys (dad and son) buy 'em at the auctions, fix anything that needs repair. They've been there 35 years, I think. In Dade City. A little Drive but... Also, that was 4k without a trade in.

The last part of that blog is worthy of Carl Hiasen (sp?).

Up here they make the roads undriveable...down there too I would imagine. I tremble every time the kids go anywhere, for fear of the aggressive city maniacs that come up here for the Saratoga racing season and use the town streets for a track. Hope you find a great car first trip so you don't have to do it again.

Tampa/ Clearwater? We all could have met up for lunch! Good luck with the car, and stay off US19!

p.s wouldn't blame you for arriving back home grouchy after dealing with our traffic! lol

Abandoned,
Sounds familiar. Sigh...

Likes2mtnbike,
Thanks for that great tip. That's the kind of place I like to deal with.
As it turned out, we were successful (tomorrow's post), but I have High School Senior Emma who needs a car too...sigh.

Hal,
Don't you know it. I don't know which I dislike the most...buying cars or going into the civilized world.

Hoss,
You don't know how fine a compliment that is...Thanks!

ThreeCollie,
You must have sent me some good luck because it went well...even the traffic part.

Laura,
We only had to go as deep as Waters Avenue off the parkway. Met the car guy at the Target parking lot and had a late lunch at Don Pablo's by Lowes.
The fact that we were in y'all's neighborhood crossed my mind...didn't want to intrude on your privacy.

Well... anytime, just let us know! It would be fun to meet up sometime.
If you were near Waters avenue, that's across the bay from where I am, however.

In any event, we spent most of the afternoon shopping for granite and trying to decide which was more important, college for the kids or granite counter tops?
stay tuned...

Laura,
Just assume they'll get a Bright Futures scholarship and get your countertop.

...did I say that?

Well, it's too late to say "Have a nice day!" but I can tell you, I feel your pain. Hope it was worthwhile.

If you're vehicle shopping, may I recommend a used Honda Accord? We have two of them; the one I drive to work each day, a '95, has 190,000 miles and running perfectly. But the air conditioning doesn't work.

Interesting picture; I've never noticed that before. And, as for the bold part, I couldn't have said it better myself.
P.S.: School really stinks :-D

Deb,
Any used Honda or Toyota gets a good look when we are car shopping.

Hurricane Teen,
Now, now, school is good for ya'.
