Ok, that was my first laugh of the day... really wasn't expecting that one! :)

Don't see how anybody could mistake that for a mermaid...

I don't know. If one had been on a ship with dozens of smelly, dirty men for months, this might be a vision of beauty.

now i recognize the carrot. yesterday it just confused me. the manatee looks like a submarine. the boat, not the sandwich.

Nice Shot!!!

I feel a certain kinship to those critters. We have the same basic body shape and I try to avoid getting gauged whenever I surface!

I'm sorry, I know I'm supposed to be looking at what's IN the water, but the clear, beautiful color of the water is completely and absolutely distracting to me. Man, if only I could go swimming! *sigh*

Laura,
Your comment saved me. I had about 2 seconds to post this morn.

Rurality,
I believe sailing causes myopia...

Mark,
Welcome! It would take that ... and the effects of scurvy and dehydration to see this as a womanatee.

Mrs. S,
This is a spring fed river and just one of many in FL. Our rivers are either dark brown or clear.

Nice manatee. I think I may have seen one once boating on the St. Johns River, but that was so long ago!

Is this a pet? Does it purr?

Anyway, nice fish. (Are manatees fish? Maybe, "nice mammals.")

Wow, at first glance I thought you have been down at Roundrock taking pix while I was swimming, but then I realized the water was too clear. Must be Wayne.

roger,
this is a wild manatee who swam up to a riverside park where captive manatees with injuries are kept and rehabilitated.they have a daily feed the 'tee show and carrots are used.

Deb,
Usually seen as a huge swirl ... not very showy like the goofy dolphin clan.

Hoss,
Nice mammals. Catatees purr.

Pablo,
As much as you grasswhip RR, I pictured you as a lean, mean, brush taming machine.

Mmmmmmm...Manatee steaks! Great on grill.

Kevin,
Don't forget to sharpen your prop before going Manatee hunting...it's important to tenderize the meat first.

(somewhere, a peta member just had a stroke)

Are you in country?

I have a special Stainless Steel prop made by Vegimatic. It slices, dices and Juliennes, perfect for a Manatee Kabob.

Yes, still in Ft. Sill, Ok. I'll be in town 6 Sep. I'll look for Mrs. FC at the UF-UCF game. I leave for dessert around 20 Sep.
