Baby Boy's Birthday

Our baby boy is 15 today, so that makes me ... oh, never mind, this is about him.

He is a joy ...has been since we brought him home and he slept through the night and skipped the whole colicy thing.
Good boy.

He's a top gun striker on our soccer team and a blossoming basketball player ... loves the Dolphins and the UF Gators with a passion only his Mom and he understand. (I remain sportfan clueless ... except when he's playing!)

He's a rabid reader and is just as likely to be found with his nose in a book ( Potter, Star Wars, Tolkien) as at his game console.
He's waaaaaay like his mom in many aspects, but I infected him with an absurd sense of humor and I see me in much of his wackiness.

Under all the lean 15 year old muscle, there's a kind heart and a love of animals, that was nurtured by the many critters who've passed through his life.

Today, he'll take his restricted driver's license test and drive his mom home from the license office.

I'm not sure I'm ready for this. Posted by Picasa

In Florida do they require you to wear shoes when you take your driver's test?

I'm no sports fan either, but I could watch my kids play sports all day, even when Seth was doing high school wrestling (such a gross sport!).

Happy Birthday to you both. I love birthdays and the opportunity to review sweet memories. We have a tradition that I always tell my boys the story of their birth on their birthday. You would think they would have tired of it by now. Your 15 year old sounds remarkable similar to mine (is it because they are Florida boys raised outdoors?) The only difference is mine doesn't like team sports preferring individual ones such as fencing. His best kind of day is to carry his kayak down to the bay and take off exploring on his own. He also has his learner's permit. Thank God for driver's ed in school! Once again, happy happy day!

You'd better start saving money now because once he has his regular license your insurance premium will take a hit like you've never seen before. My son got his driver's license 4 months ago and I'm still in sticker shock over the insurance.

Happy birthday to your son. I love how you describe him. A good combination of his mom and dad. A kind heart and good kid, what could be better. Best of luck to him on his first day with a restricted licensed.

Happy birthday to him and congratulations for surviving the first of the teenage years!

It's so exciting to get your license ... I'm happy for him.

Happy Birthday to your son. He sounds like a fine young man and although he has some of his mom's finer qualities, he does resemble you quite a bit.

Happy happy birthday. He reminds me a lot of my youngest except that mine is only 13. He sounds like fun.

Sounds like a great kid but as they say in FL, the orange doesn't fall far from the tree. Happy Birthday to him. But tell him the Bulls are the team of the future.

BTW- just noticed the holster in the beach pic. Precious. Is that the one and the same, that ended up suspended by brush, that showed up in a blog post?

Excuse me, I can't see for some reason, gotta go hug my boys. :)

Tell your fine son that another ordered sequence of electrons zipping around in cyber-space wishes him a very happy birthday.

I love when you write about your children- you're such a sentimental guy. He has a nice open face- nothing sullen or moody there. Happy Birthday to him and to mother and father, too!

Happy Belated bday!! With football choices like that, he must be one of the good ones. My fav teams are the Bucs and 'Fins, and the Gators for college, of course.
Best of luck with the driving, your nerves and insurance sticker shock!

Happy birthday to the baby boy. I know I'm a day late, but Blogger wouldn't let me post a comment yesterday.
And FC, NO comments about your age -- you are the same age as I so just remember that we are not old!

Happy Birthday to the "Wee-One"

(I had the same problems as swamp4me)

Don't worry about the driving thing, I'm sure he'll be great at it. Something about boys and natural aptitude for all things mechanical? I dunno, but it'll be fine ;)

To all,
Thank you for the kind thoughts and good wishes.

Pablo,
Shoes are required, but shirts are optional :)

Cathy,
What a sweet tradition. Your son sounds like he's got his priorities right :)

Debbie,
I know, I've got two teen girls on my insurance and now it's about to get more painful.

Lightnin and T,
Will do!

Rick,
His soccer season starts Saturday so the shrimp may be safe from me this weekend.

Lilly,
Thanks! Yes, very wise, his sister Emma reveled in it.

Rurality,
AHA!!!

Deb,
Thanks!

Robin,
Thank you. He is a good mix.

Ava,
It is an exciting milestone, one we never forget I guess.

Woodster,
Think positive dude!

ThreeCollie,
Thanks to you all. I'm glad they don't share the same birthday ... that would be too weird.

Sandy,
Okay, major brownie points for you!

Hick,
He is pure fun ... mostly.

Mac,
Double thanks. Now if I tell him that Bulls thing, he's going to snort and roll his eyes...although his fins aren't doing so hot this year.

Deb,
Whoa, I believe it is. He's the right age in that pic and it sure looks right ... he had quite an aresenal, (like his dad), but I think you are correct... sniff.

Hal,
Cool! He loves electrons.

Vicki,
We seem to have missed the "sullen teen syndrome" in our kids. I teach a bunch of them and I'm very thankful for that little blessing.

Benning,
Thanks and yes I am picking out new hiding spots.

Laura,
Thanks, I thought you would like his pics. Emma loves the Bucs, so we have it covered as a family ;)

Swampy,
I know, I don't feel old, just nostalgic ... it's the photos.

Oh Mrs. S,
He's completely unmechanical just like his dad.

Happy Birthday to your son. I hope he knows how lucky he is to have a dad like you that has taught him "everything" about the outdoors. (I have certainly learned a lot since I started reading this blog.) Reference the learner's permit - just take deep breaths and HANG ON!

Tuffy,
Hyperventilating now!
Thanks for the tip and the kind words :)
