Hunted

I felt their eyes before I actually saw them. Eyes that gleamed with hunger and the thrill of the hunt. From across the pond, our eyes locked, and I knew, oh yes, I knew ... the hunt was on.

I dashed through the willow swamp, zigging and zagging, hoping to lose them in the brush.

It worked ... partially, the yellow beast fell behind ...

... but the black one was relentless. Nose down, she tracked my spoor through swamp, woods, and palmetto. I ran on ...

Breathless, I chose a hiding spot behind a fat cabbage palm. She eased closer, and closer, her hunter's senses tracking my every step.

I cowered in my concealment, she was close enough to touch. Her nose was still down taking in my scent. Should I stay hidden or make a run for it ?

Slowly she raised her nose from the ground and looked directly at me.
It was over ... I knew what would happen next ...

Thank goodness you weren't a duck. Might not have been so lucky if you were.

It's difficult to look into those two faces and not just melt on the spot.

Have a great weekend!

Whew, FC that was a close one! Your dogs have such dynamic personalities...It makes my dog seem like Bevis from Beevis & Butthead.

Looks like a fun game. Our cat tries to do that with me sometimes. Out of nowhere he comes flying at the back of my legs. He always just glances off them, never scratches me, and then walks away quite proud of himself.

Feather so wins.

I hope Flounder got to do a victory roll for his part in the chase.

I loved this entry. SO MUCH. But I'm perhaps biased, as I love ALL the doggy entries.

Did she slather you with victory slobber - that's what my Hannah would have done :)

I love the picture of the two of them...such determination in those canine eyes!

Just a part of the reason they are considered a man's best friend.

I know the feeling having two stalker beagles of our own. There is no hiding in the woods. They will track one down, and yes, the obligatory double tummy rub.

Pablo,
I do?

ThreeCollie,
Pretty scary huh?

Laura,
I think she's dangerously adorable :)

Laurao,
Will do. At least they are good protection when they are not stalking me.

POPatricia,
You're right. They are hardwired for duck stalking.

HTeen,
Beevis is the smart one right?

Robin,
I guess (hope) they are just practicing on us.

Mrs. S,
Glad you liked it. Flounder was actually making a flanking movement ... that was his story when I found him snoozing on the porch.

Swampy,
Oh yes, Feather is a master of slobber.

Deb,
Me too. That dock shot is becoming a favorite ... more each time I look at it.

Hal,
We like the animals who play with us.

Mac,
I would imagine there really is no escape from the super smeller of a beagle.

I love your "doggy tails" (mispelled on purpose). They make me smile.

Likes2mtnbike,
It's true. We must stay in touch with our inner puppy :)
