Mundane Mix

In his comment yesterday, Pablo wondered how the heavy rains of Friday night had changed the pond puddle. The top photo is last week before the rain. The second picture is Saturday morning. For the small fish surviving in the pond, their world has tripled and the heron will have to work harder.

A while back, I wrote about the Girdle Tree, (not to be confused with either type of Thong Tree.) At the time I was taking the slow route in letting some light into my little shooting range. The girdled tree slowly weakened, and even though it was a terrifically boring hurricane season, the tree did fall as planned. The picture above is from the backside of the range (outside of the actual range and behind the berm).

(Opposite end, looking into the range)

Last winter, when the heat of summer dissipated and it was fun to be digging and messing around in the woods, Jr. took over my range (he asked first). He and his buds used a bunch of old junk picket fence, branches, palm fronds, and some poor man backhoes to convert my range into a paintball fortress.

As soon as the fort was completed, they promptly lost interest and moved on to some new endeavor.

The range was actually still useable, but then the girdle tree finally fell filling it in with a maze of branches. I'm cleaning it up this weekend.
So, this is the before picture.

I'll post an after picture after.

First though, I'm going grocery shopping. ( I told you this was mundane) I'm in the mood to BBQ something ...

... what are you in the mood for?

BBQ pulled pork sandwiches sound good too.
Great to see there is some water back in the pond again. Hopefully, we'll have more rain with the fronts coming through as winter moves in.

Did Emma have a good time at HowlOscream? It's too bad we couldn't have co-ordinated our times. It would have been nice to meet Emma and your wife while we were there. And we would have loved to have her over to watch the Gator game! Ahh well, our families do seem to cross paths from time to time. Maybe someday! Enjoy the BBQ, great weather for it right now.

I'm in the mood for oysters - steamed, please. Oh, and don't forget the beer to go with them.

Laura,
That would have been neat if you guys could have met at HOWLOSCREAM. As for the football watching, she's really loud during a game ... sounds like she might fit in :)
Oh, it turned out I was in the mood for wings not BBQ so I'm frying instead of grillin'.
It's all good tho.

Swampy,
That beer will still go good with wings ;)
I haven't had steamed oysters in forever ... that used to be our standard Park Service company party at the Castillo. An outdoor oyster roast at Fort Matanzas. Good eats, good memories.

I'm in the mood for some jambalaya, gumbo, or whatever you call it. I used to make something that resembled it fairly often, but lately it has fallen out of the recipe repertoire.

Mrs.S,
I'm drawing a blank on that one...
wait! Here are some contractions to help you along ... can't, didn't, I'm, don't, they're ...
Hope that helped :)

Deb,
They're both good. Kind of a big leap from the Swedish cuisine eh?

A spear head was actually found hanging in the fleece of one of the surviving animals.
