Okay, whew .... Let's Lighten The Mood Around Here

My trip to Southern Select Show Pigs in Omega, Georgia was successful. This morning, I'd like you to meet #413, who is still waiting on Jr. to come up with a real name.

Knowing him, it will probably have Star Wars or Lord Of The Rings connections, but you never know.

Any suggestions?

We've never raised just one show pig before since Katie was also involved, but now that she's so OLD and in college, she can't play.
(heehee)

We were concerned about separation anxiety. Pigs are very social (not socialist, you hippies ;) and we had heard that a single pig would sometimes refuse to eat and be depressed.

To make her feel part of the herd, we spent alot of time with her this weekend, talking, grunting, chewing loudly with our mouths open, and generally just hanging out with her. It seems to be working.

I put a an old blue lawn chair next to her pen and Jr. and I would go in and sit with her off and on yesterday.

She's eating great and is already letting us rub her back and sides. I think she's adapting very well to being an only child. She will be with us until the Suwannee River Livestock Fair in March.

Don't forget, all name suggestions will be considered, but in the end, Jr. will make the decision.

Anything will be better than last year's name choice ....

"Bodonkydonk"

ugh.

She is very cute - I hope she doesn't get too lonely! Will she accept human and/or canine company for her social requirements?

I think "Porkchop" is a wonderful name for a piggy, but I've been wrong before. I can't wait to hear what Jr. comes up with :D

Oh, she's a beauty, what hams, what hocks!
We have raised singles a couple times with no problems.
Not a single thought on a name. There is always a war for naming rights here on the piggies, which we get from some very dear "fair" friends some miles away. Every time we bring a couple home there are at least three sets of punny possibilities....and then it ends up being dad who feeds them and he just calls them, "My piggies". (his project, you see.) Good luck with the little guy,

Aww, I know you'll want something more unique but how about Piggy Sue?
(P.S. I meant to say in a previous post what a beautiful dog your Lady was, bless her heart...)

I guess calling her My Fair Lady would be too long a name, but how about fair lady?

God, little pigs are so cute!

I'm stumped, trying to think of a name!

But I do love the little piggy pics. She is so cute!

Still sorry about Lady :(((

she is a cutie! what about calling her fido?

my dad had a pony as a kid, called askim. when people asked the name, he'd say, "ask 'im."

i guess that would have to be "asker" for this piggie...

The pig reminds me how I feel, just got back from the bahamas and I ate too much, one thing for sure spending Thanksgiving on a boat sure wasn't as good as moms cooking. Freeport looked like Florida once inland its full of palmettos and pine trees.

I've always been partial to "OINK"...that was my piggy's name.
She's so cute!

What a cutie! I never sausage a cute pig! First names that came to mind were, naturally, Wilbur (Wilburina?) and Babe. She kinda reminds me of The Little Rascals' dog, Petey. I think DS would call her Wilby Bacon. Truffles? Pinky Tuscadero? Pork Patty? Ham Solo? Holly(Ham)hock? OK. I'll quit.

If she does eat some of your fowl, will she then be a Guinea Pig? 8-}

I just read the suggested names to Jr. and I must say some of your suggestions were very popular. Jury is still out tho.

Mrs. S,
She seems to be accepting human company a little faster than dog company.

ThreeCollie,
This Dad winds up doing a fair amount of feeding Jr.'s pig too. I just call 'em "Pig".

Rurality,
Good genre suggestion! Clever.

roger,
"the donald" ...LOL.
this pig shows no sign of arrogance so far ... i told the chickens to watch their tailfeathers.

Likes2mtnbike,
Good one. She will be treated like a queen.

MoMadness,
Piggy Sue got a round of laughter... that's a good thing.
Yes, Lady was a pretty girl.

POPatricia,
I get it. Very good.

Laura,
That's okay, it wasn't a requirement :) But if inspiration strikes, come back!
Me too regarding Lady.

Kathy A,
Too funny. I always wanted to have a horse named Alpo.

Rick,
Glad you made it back without any cruise ship virus.

Sandy,
Oink might be a good name for this gilt. She is the most vocal pig we've ever had. Quite a talker.

SophieMae,
Wow, you were on a roll! I have to tell you Ham Solo got a very positive reaction from Jr. and Emma.
The Guinea pig joke had me laughing.

Well, knowing what is eventually in store for her, I suggest this:

"Woeisme."

You can pronounce it Who's Me, so she doesn't know what's coming.

bacon? tasty? or is that too ghoulish?

you know, hogzilla was on tv the other day... fun show. i don't think it was supposed to be funny, but it was hilarious. you should tune in if you get a chance - it's a national geographic show. my cousin and i are contemplating giving it all up to become 'feral hog experts.'

Tell him that I said it should be Wilbur....coming from the pig lady!
