What's In Your Woods?
Other people ... normal people ... only have to worry about meth labs, escaped cons, and stray hunter bullets when they go into their woods for a peaceful walk.
Some of us have other concerns as we walk through the glades and dappled light 'neath our trees.
StarWars nerds are a definite threat this time of year. I'd like to blame their appearance on some seasonal migration from the north ... (snownerds ?) ... but I know these two are native born Floridiots.
I tease them about being total geeks (they are not by the way), but I also remember anxiously anticipating the first Star Wars movie years ago. I was hooked from the start and stayed hooked through the first three episodes.
It was after the third movie when the sequence went all kaflooey that my interest flagged. Now when we watch one of the newer Star Wars movies, I am that irritating person asking, " Now, who is that? Is that Darth when he was young and a good guy, or is that Obie when he was young .... okay I can tell that is still Yoda, but is he old or young in this movie? ... "
The experts roll their eyes and try to explain, but you can see they're just humoring you and really don't think you "get it".
This weekend they started talking about a Star Wars convention in LA next year. I told them to forget about it.
I didn't tell them that I went to a Star Trek convention MC'd by THE Gene Roddenberry when I was in college.
No need to give them any ammunition.
Why is Junior Skywalker smiling?
Sharp-eyed regular readers will know.

Gee, I thought it was a pair of skunk apes at first.
Junior is smiling, of course, because he finally has a shirt to wear.
could it be that the one under the screened mask is a female friend? If not oops sorry jr
Is he smiling because he just found out Darth Vader is his father?
Having never seen a star wars movie, I am clueless.
The original Star Wars movie is on its way to my house via Netflix. I have a feeling there will be three more Star Wars nerds by the end of the weekend.
Perhaps Jr. just won the battle and now he gets to be the first to try out a newly hung horse swing?
I'm going to have to think about this, FC. At the moment, I have no idea why Jr is smiling, other than he's dressed up like Lukeskywalker, and definitely looking the part.
I don't have a clue either, but that looks fun!
Pablo,
There are times when the skunk label fits on these guys ...
Rick,
No, his good buddy J.
Lightnin,
No, his real dad is much more evil.
How's Thunder?
POPatricia,
Whoa ... never?
Deb,
Well, there are worse things than enjoying a story of personal bravery, adventure, love, and free people battling tyranny.
KS,
YOU WIN! Thanks for delurking. He got them off last Wednesday after a 14 month stint. Good job oh observant one.
Hal,
No, I think it was a draw.
Robin,
He's smiling alot now that his teeth are out of irons.
Laurahinnj,
Brace yourself, it's his newly freed teeth!
roger,
well, the secret is out now. he's braces free and very smiley.
Wow, kids playing! That is truly a rare thing to see these days. Congrats to him on the braces removal. That must be wonderful!
Looks like fun. :)
I remember the first time I ever heard about the "Star Wars" movie. Thought it was the dumbest idea ever for a movie. D'oh! (I like them all now.)
Well, I did the same thing you did. After the first few movies, they lost me. I'm now totally clueless.
Loved all your critter condos! I'm thinking I've made it a bit too inviting around here. The bunnies, who love to hide in the brushpiles I've strategically placed, are leaving their little pellets everywhere and the deer are eating my roses. Still, I might just have to borrow some of your ideas. 8-]
Because he is not in Kuwait!
Oh, yeah, thanks ever so for your comment. Most of my readers seem to be blog-o-phobic and email me their comments. I've seen more pygmy rattlers this year than ever. I'll sneak up on those, but I gave this guy the 10-foot-pole treatment. 8-}
FC-
Check your regular e-mail for an update on Thunder
Don't you love it when the last payment is made on the braces?
LOL
Sounds like they had a blast!
Wowsers! A Trekkie? Not Somehow I'm not surprised.
Sweet looking lad you have there...reminds me a lot of Nerd Boy.
ThreeCollie,
How true. These guys are really in to it. If it's Lord of The Rings or Star Wars, I know not to get into a trivia contest with them.
Rurality,
Good to see you back in the mix. I still think the start in the middle idea was goofy ... it derailed me.
Sophiemae,
I follow the 10 foot pole rule on those big'ns too. My brush piles are popular with the cottontail set too. I create my own garden pest problems :)
Lightnin,
Will do, I lost the cell number I guess.
Kevin,
Oh come on, I've seen the travel brochures ... ;)
Laura,
Yes! Just in time to switch it to that new fridge payment... arrghhh!
Hick,
I was about to send out the Mounties ... GREAT to hear from you again. Yes, I am an original Trekkie ... Kirk rules!
Braces off. And I didn't cheat. Hope you're enjoying the weather!
Well you told me why he is smiling so no need to guess now. I bet Jr. is happy about his braces coming off.
At first I thought the boys were a couple of ninja fighters in the forest. You can tell that I haven't been keeping up with Star Wars either. hehehe
I did really love the first Star Wars movie though & I'm not really sure if I saw the second one.
Likes2mtnbike,
Gold star for not cheating! Good job. Yup, the weather, including the good rain two days ago, is beautifulicious.
Sandy,
They think Ninjas are cool too, so they would take that as a compliment.
Star Trek trumps Star Wars any time. I remember going to see Leonard Nimoy speak at a convocation when I was in high school. It had more to do with his poetry writing than with Star Trek, but he did give us a Vulcan salute at the beginning.
Jr. teeth look great -- beat him if he doesn't wear his retainer :)
*Jr.'s (arrgh)
Swampy,
I hear ya, but so far no thrashing has been needed. He's actually pretty good about stuff like that.
I'll keep an eye on him tho.
This is coming from an unknown source in which I am afraid I cannot reveal the identity, but Star Wars owns Star Trek. It is truly the greatest thing that Sci-fi has ever known and George Lucas might as well be classified as a bonified Genius.
So you went to a Trek Convention, eh? Jr. might find that interesting. (manical laughter)
