Tempus Fugit

Today is the swine entry day at the Suwannee River Livestock Fair.
"PIG!" has to weigh between 235 and 285 pounds to make it in to the fair. We think she's good, about a month ago she was at 190, but we have not been able to weigh her again since.
I'll post on the results later today. Right now, I have to go load her into a trailer.
sigh....

Is this the boy's pig, or the girl's pig? Seems I remember you saying only your son was raising a pig this year.

Handsome blueback. A prize winner for sure!

An easy winner in the two-tone pig division.

Without a commercial platform scale, how does one go about weighing a 200+ pound pig? It seems it would be a daunting task.

She made it! Fair pics will come along off and on this week.

Pablo,
Katie is too old now, Emma never got into FFA, so it's Jr's pig.

roger,
i was waiting for her to go to the fair before i bbqed some ribs.the grill is pretty close to her pen.

Gin,
Welcome to Pure Florida!
I hope so! If they gave a prize for mellowness, she'd definitely win.

Hoss,
We have your vote then?

Hal,
The fair of course has a built in livestock scale that can handle steers to pigs.
For the kids in our school FFA, we share an FFA portable livestock scale. It's a narrow chute type cage on wheels, but the floor of it is a scale platform. All compact and sized to fit in a pickup or small trailer.

Glad she made it in. Good luck. I'm glad I don't have to worry about fairs for another few months!

Hey, FC - didn't I read somewhere that pigs is just naturally clean critters? Or, is that just propaganda put out by the International Swine Anti-Defamation Association, Inc., Ltd., and LLC.? Just wonderin'.

YAY PIG!

Paintsmh,
Thanks! We have our fair early so the heat doesn't get to the critters.

Ol Lurker,
Oh very clean. She's actually taking a bath in the photograph.
:)

Mel,
Some pig!

That is just what I was going to say, Some Pig!

thanks again for the well wishes...this ranks right up there with some of the toughest things I've ever had to do. It hasn't just hurt me. Now I need to find someone who has a beach house I can move to for the week! I want to go to the "anti-Cheers" bar...where nobody knows your name. :(

Well, shoot! We were in that area today. DS and I went through Cross City, Trenton and Newberry on our way to Gainesville. I should've checked blogs before we left. If I had the stamina I had 10 years ago - and gas prices were what they were 10 years ago - I'd head right back down there tomorrow.

ThreeCollie,
She's a pretty one, but when you get to the fair,...they all look great! You know that of course.

Mel,
Some kind of other dimension Cheers bar huh.

Sophie,
Oh no! You missed a real, old time kid oriented livestock fair. Just kids and animals, no rides, no carnies.

I hope "Pig" does good!
Seems like just a year ago we were down there during all of these shananigans!

Just curious, what happens to "PIG" after the fair or dare I ask?

R.Powers said...

Dave,
You had some kind of Orlando thing with Lightnin didn't ya'?

Dreaming D,
Sold in an auction. Check out the comments in Sunday's post for a detailed answer.

I have almost decided that hogs are going to be our next livestock venture. Less fencing needed than for goats and I know the family likes pork.
