Up in the young cherry tree, the tent caterpillars were waiting for the cherry tree to leaf out and flower, so they could hatch and feed.
Somewhere in my woods, the yellow-billed cuckoo has been waiting on the tent worm caterpillars to do just that.
Inside the garden, the blueberry bushes have also waited patiently for warmer, longer days. Winter was a quiet time for them and now that the wait is over, they can bloom ... and then wait for the bees who have been waiting for their buds to open.
I'm waiting for blueberries to form and ripen.
High in a blueberry bush, the egg sack of the female golden orb weaver spider who guarded this blueberry patch last summer is securely fastened with gold silk.
The female spider who made it is long dead now, but inside are hundreds of tiny spider eggs.
Waiting.

After reading this I'm looking forward to my wild blueberry dessert after lunches in the field a short time from now. I hadn't thought about that until reading your post, but now can't wait.
I just discovered a new (to me) blueberry bush the other day and was so happy to see all the buds! We don't seem to have as many tent caterpillars as usual this year. Maybe the're hiding over in the overgrown section.
I've never seen a golden orb spider sack. Great eyes. Great writing.
What are those eggs waiting for? For you to squish them in your fingers? I sure hope they're not good for anything (but I suspect they are).
